      JENIFER, Daniel, (nephew of Daniel of St. Thomas Jenifer), a Representative from Maryland; born in Charles County, Md., April 15, 1791; completed preparatory studies; studied law; served in the State house of delegates; elected as an Anti-Jacksonian to the Twenty-second Congress (March 4, 1831-March 3, 1833); unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1832 to the Twenty-third Congress; elected as an Anti-Jacksonian to the Twenty-fourth Congress and reelected as a Whig to the Twenty-fifth and Twenty-sixth Congresses (March 4, 1835-March 3, 1841); appointed Minister to Austria on August 27, 1841, and served until July 7, 1845; register of wills for Charles County 1846-1851; died in Mulberry Grove, near Port Tobacco, Md., December 18, 1855; interment on a farm, "Charleston," in the southern part of Charles County, Md.

      Whereas Alexander Greer, Thomas Price Sr., Samuel Chapman, Samuel Hawkins and Horatio Clagett have by the mutual consent of all the parties concerned acted as commissioners in the division of real estate of Dr. Daniel Jenifer, deceased and have a portion to each representative the lands hereafter designated as their respective portion of the said real estate that is to say, "Rose Hill" with all the appurtenances to be the property of John B. Morris, the lands known by the name of "The Retreat" and plantation to be the property of Daniel of St. Thomas Jenifer. The lands in Nanjemoy known by the names of "Maryland Point", "Chearman's Purchase", "Freehold" and "Meeks Park" to be the property of Daniel Jenifer. The rest or remainder of the lands in Nanjemoy which Dr. Daniel Jenifer died possessed to be the property of Mariamne C. Jenifer and the lands known by the name of "Panquiah" {sic Panguya] estate to be the property of Walter H. Jenifer to which division as aforesaid and each of us agree and bind ourselves our heirs and assigns to be governed by the same and do mutually acquit each other and their heirs or assigns from any claims or claims to any part of portion of said estate real estate as divided by the commissioners.       At the foot of the aforegoing instrument of writing is thus written, to wit;

This is intended to bind myself as heir executors administrators and assigns in the sum of $20,000 current money of the United States to be paid to the aforesaid representatives in case of her refusing to make over her right title and interest to each representative or the heirs or assigns whenever she may arrive to the age of 21 for the performance of which I have hereunto subscribed my name and affixed my seal the day and year before written, George Forbes in the presence of Samuel Ogden, Horatio Clagett
