12 July 1755. Walter Fitzgerald junr. of Bromfield Parish, Culpeper County, planter, to John Battaley of same. Mortgage to secure £14.6.3 current money. One black horse with a star in his forehead, two pyed cows, one marked with an under keel in the left and a swallowfork in the right year [sic] and the other not marked, one red heifer marked with an under keel in the left and a swallowfork in the right ear, and three bull calves unmarked, two beds, two ruggs, and two blankits, one linnen wheel and one woolen wheel, one chest, one table, four chairs, one pail, one piggin, seven plates, one dish and one bason, two iron potts and two hooks, one black jack and one jugg, two cups and four earthen pans, one gum [sic], two tubs, two broad axes, one rough hoe, four hilling and two weeding hoes, one frying pan, one dozen spoons, three sows and six young barrows marked with an underkeel in the left and a swallow fork in the right ear and two shotes unmarked.

17 April 1760. John Battaley of Spotsylvania County. to William Walker of Culpeper County. Lease of all the remainder of that tract of land and plantation whereon John Battlaey formerly lived (excluding 100 acres and the plantation leased to Walter Fitzgerald the Younger) from 25 December next for nineteen years. Yearly rent, £5 current money.
William Walker agrees to plant 154 apple trees at thirty foot distance from each other within four years and keep the orchard under a sufficient fence and not waste more timber than necessary for the plantation's use and cole for the use of Walker's blacksmith's shop, and cask to contain the cyder, mobby and crops of tobacco made thereon.
