      Walter Winter junior (son of John), February 19, 1799; June 4, 1799
      I, Walter Winter of CC being at this time in a weak and sickly state of body but of sound and disposing mind memory and understanding.
      First: I give my Executors herein after named, full power and authority to sell and convey such part of real or personal estate as my wife shall direct, excepting a negro girl named Alice.
      Secondly: I devise and bequeath the use of all my estate real and personal after my debts are paid (except negro Alice), to my wife Jane Winter during her single life for the support of herself and my children.
      Thirdly: In case my wife shall marry again, that the whole of my real and personal estate remaining in her possession after my debts are paid shall be sold and conveyed by William Campbell and John Haw two of my executors … and the money arising from such sale be distributed invested and disposed of in the manner following that is to say one third part of the amount of such sales be retained by my wife … the remaining two third parts to be divided among my several children … (this clause contains lengthy legal statements.)
      Further, I give and bequeath to daughter Jane Brown Winter, over and above the full share of my estate, above negro girl named Alice.

Bk 8, Page 368, 4 Dec 1778, 24 July 1784, refers to sons William, Gustavus Brown, Isaac, James, Richard, Henry and John; daughters Frances, Mary and Cecelia Anne and Jean, wife of Walter Winter, eldest son of John Winter. It refers to an estate in Prince William County, Va., conveyed by late Charles Carters ex. in trust to the Rev. James Scott, his son Capt James Scott and Cuthbert Bullot, esq. of which land the estate has the use and disposal and of which his wife has use of for life. Mentions wife's father' s estate.       Ignatius Winter's Will
      I, Ignatius Winter of CC, Gentleman, am sick and weak in
      body but sound mind, memory, and understanding.
      To my brother Charles Bruce Winter - all that tract of land, being part of the land called the deep Valies, I purchased of John Bruce. Also my horse colt that came of mare Dutches.
      To my sister Elizabeth Bruce Winter - my two Negro slaves, Dick and Jonathan.
      To my brother John Winter - the colt that my mare Dutches is now big with.
      To my brother Walter Winter - my mare Dutches.
      To my three sisters, Elizabeth Bruce Winter, Elinor Winters, and Catharine Winter, to be equally divided between them - all that land I bought of Mr James Campbell in the Illinois country.
      To my nephew John Campbell - my set stock buckles.
      To my father, Mr John Winter - the rest of my estate, after paying my debts and above legacies.

      John Winter's Will.
      I, John Winter of CC, Gentleman, am at this time unwell.
      To my son Walter Winter 400 acres of land called the Meadows, about 200 acres called the Meadows Marsh, and if he has no male heirs, the afd 600 acres to go to my son John Winter, and if John has no male heirs, the land to go to my son Charles Bowie Winter.
      I also give Walter a Negro man named Moses and a Negro woman named Terry and all the pictures in and about my house, 1 large oval table, 1 bed and furniture.
      To my son John Winter part of a tract of land called the Meadows, bounded by Westwood Manor, the dividing line of land I purchased of Thomas Middleton and William Holt, thence to land I purchase of the Wathens, the line of St Thomas' Manor, now my dwelling plantation.
      Also, a Negro man named Tom Craik, and his wife, Jude, and her daughter Chloe, Victory, Beck, Hezekiah, Tom, & Matilda, all children of Tom Craik & his wife, Jude.
      Also, a silver can and 4 silver spoons, 1 silver salt cellar, and 1 silver paper box, 2 feather bed &
      furniture. Also my house clock, 12 chairs, and 3 best tables.
      To my son Charles Bruce Winter the old plantation that my father bought of Richard Gray and William Gray, and a piece of land called Addition to Orphin Loss, containing 150 acres. Also, a tract of land, bounded by a stone marked IP, called Grays Fancy, and contains 56 acres. Also 1 Negro man named Adam, and 1 ditto named Phill, 1 Negro boy named Charles, and 2 Negro girls named Anne & Cate, and 2 feather beds & furniture. Also all the horses, cattle, sheep, and hogs that are now on my plantation at Nanjemoy.
      To my dau Elizabeth Winter 2 Negro men named Dick and Jonathan, and 1 Negro girl named Daphney.
      To my dau Eleonar Winter 1 Negro woman called Barbra, 1 Negro girl called Peg, and 1 Negro boy called Davie.
      To my dau Catharine Winter 3 Negro girls called Suke, Vinnus, and Charity.
      To my afd sons and daus, namely John, Charles Bruce, Elizabeth, and Catharien Winter the rest of my
      personal estate,t o be equally divided between them, I want my afd 3 daus to remain on my dwelling
      plantation and have full liberty to occupy some part of the afd plantation, with the Negroes that become their property, until they marry.

      Catherine Winter's Will
      I, Catherine Winter of CC, Spinster, am now low and weak in body but of disposing mind and judgment.
      To my sister Elizabeth Bruce Winter my Negro woman Suke.
      Also my white calico sack and coat, my piece of cotton
      now with John Bruce, and my 3 teaspoons [one of them broken] left me by my grandmother Price.
      To my sister Eleanor Winter my Negro girl Charity. Also my
      red silk sack and apron. Also one half of my piece of
      fine cotton, now in the house.
      To my brothers, Charles Bruce and John Winter the other half of my piece of fine cotton, for making them
      stocks. Also, a mourning ring apiece.
      To my niece Nelly Campbel my Negro girl Winny.
      These bequests of Negroes are agreeable to my decd mother,
      her grandmother's wish. These three were left me by my late father's will.
      To my niece Catherine Campbel my red cardinal cloak.
      To my brother Walter Winter should any large tablespoon
      fall to my share in the future division of my father's estate, I leave it to Walter.
      To my 2 sisters afd the rest of my estae, whether now in my right and possession or hereafter to fall to my share in the future division of my father's undivided estate.

I hereby bequeath my whole right in sd land to them, to be equally divided between them.

      Charles County Land Records 1786-1790; Liber D#4; Page 346. Sep 30, 1788 from Walter Winter Jr of CC, to Thomas Andrew Dyson of CC. Whereas John Gray, formerly of CC, deed, in his lifetime, owned a certain parcel of land on the west side of Wards Run in CC, and did, by his will (dated Apr 23, 1715) devise to his 2 sons, Richard Gray and William Gray, the afd parcel of land, being 348 acres where sd John Gray decd lived. The land was to be equally divided between the 2 sons- Sd Richard Gray entered and possessed sd parcel of land after the death of his sd father, and being so seized and possessed, on Sep 16, 1720, by deed, sold to Walter Winter, late of CC, decd, grandfather of the afd Walter Winter, party to this present indenture, all the right, title, and estate of him, the sd Richard Gray, to sd parcel of land. And whereas William Gray, the other son, who entered into and possessed sd parcel, on Nov 24, 1725, by deed, sold to sd Walter Winter (the grandfather), all his right to sd parcel of land. And whereas the sd Walter Winter Jr is the lineal heir and descendant of the sd Walter Winter, the grandfather, now this deed witnesses that the sd Walter Winter Jr, for 2088 £to him in hand paid by sd Thomas Andrew Dyson, has granted to sd Thomas Andrew Dyson, all that parcel of land afd on the west side of Wards Run. signed - Walter Winter Jr. Wit - B. Fendall*, Wm D. Briscoe*. Jane, wife to the sd Walter Winter Jr, relinquished her right of dower to the within mentioned land. Recorded Oct 1, 1788,

      Charles County Land Records 1790-1792; Liber K#4; Page 522. Nov 5, 1792 from Thomas Andrew Dyson of CC, to Walter Winter Jr of CC. John Gray, formerly of CC, decd, in his lifetime owned a certain parcel of land an the west side of Wards Run in CC, and did, by his will dated Apr 23, 1715, devise to his 2 sons, Richard Gray and William Gray, the afd parcel. According to the will, the land consists of the 348 acres where sd John Gray decd lived, and was to be equally divided between the 2 sons. Sd Richard Gray entered upon and possessed his part of the parcel of land, and then on Sep 16, 1720, by CC deed, conveyed his part to Walter Winter, late of CC, decd. Sd William Gray entered upon and possessed his part of the parcel and did, on Nov 24, 1725, by a deed, convey his part to the afd Walter Winter decd. Afd Walter Winter Jr, as the lineal heir of the afd Walter Winter, grantee of sd Richard Gray and Wm Gray, afterwards became the owner of the afd parcel, and by CC deed from sd Walter Winter Jr to afd Thomas Andrew Dyson, did, on Sep 30, 1788, convey to the afd Thomas Andrew Dyson the afd parcel, Now this deed witnesses that Thomas Andrew Dyson, for 2088 £, sells to Walter Winter Jr the afd parcel of land.       At the request of Samuel Chapman the following Deed was recorded this 16th day ofFebruary Anno Domini 1801
      This Indenture made this fourth day of February in the year of our Lord on thousand and eight hundred and two Between Jane Winter of Charles County and State of Maryland Executrix and William Campbell of Frederick County and State aforesaid and John Haw of Charles County and State aforesaid executors of the Last will and Testament of Walter Winter Junior, son of John late of Charles County deceased of the one part and Samuel Chapman of Charles County and State aforesaid of the other part Whereas the said Walter Winter Junior departed this life having duly made and published his Last will and Testament in writing bearing date on or about the nineteenth day of February seventeen hundred and ninety nine and thereby amongst other things willed and directed that all his Just Debts should be paid and for that purpose gave his executors therein named full power and authority to sell and convey such part of his real or personal estate as his wife should direct and the said Testator constituted and appointed the said Jane Winter his wife to be executrix and the said William Campbell and John Haw to be executors of his said will who have taken upon themselves the burthen of the execution thereof as in and by the said Last will and Testament duly proved and recorded in the Orphans Court of Charles County relation being thereunto had may more fully and at large appear Now This Indenture Witnesseth that the said Jane Winter William Campbell and John Haw in pursuance of the Last will and Testament of the said Walter Winter Junior and for and in consideration of the sum of nine hundred and ninety seven pounds nine Shillings and one penny Current Money of Maryland to them in hand well and truly paid by the said Samuel Chapman at and before the sealing and delivery of these presents ( the receipt and payment thereof is hereby acknowledged) They the said Jane Winter William Campbell and John Haw by virtue of the power and authority vested in them by the Last will and Testament of the said Walter Winter Junior, Have given granted bargained sold aliened released and confirmed and by these presents do give grant bargain sell aliene release and confirm unto the said Samuel Chapman his heirs and assigns forever the following tracts or parcels of Land Situate lying and being in Durham Parish in Charles County towit a tract of Land called Deep Valleys containing thirty five acres one rood and twenty three perches more or less Also a tract of Land called Addition to the Orphans Loss containing one hundred and seventy acres and twenty nine perches more or less Also a tract of Land called Grays Fancy containing sixteen acres and twenty one perches more or less Also a tract of Land called the Land of Lee containing three hundred and seventy four acres more or less and all the estate right title interest claim and demand whatsoever which he the said Walter Winter Junior had of in and to the said Tracts or parcels of Land or any part or parcel of them or either of them

      This Indenture made this twenty fifth day of February in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and ninety nine between Elizabeth Winter formerly the wife and widow of Charles Bruce Winter deceased and now the widow of John Winter son of John late of Charles County deceased of the one part and Walter Winter Eldest son and heir at Law of John Winter father of the aforesaid Charles Bruce Winter and John Winter of Charles County aforesaid of the other part Whereas John Winter father of the aforesaid Walter Winter Charles Bruce Winter and John Winter by his last Will and Testament bearing date of the twenty fourth day of October in the year Seventeen hundred and eighty did devise unto the aforesaid Charles Bruce Winter a certain quantity of Land in and by the words following that is to Say "I give and bequeath unto my well beloved son Charles Bruce Winter the old plantation that my father bought of Richard Gray and William Gray and likewise a piece of land called Addition to Orphin Loss containing one hundred and fifty acres likewise a tract of land begining at a bounded Stone marked IP called Grays Fancy and contains fifty six acres " as by the last will and testament of the said John Winter reference being thereto had will fully appear And whereas Ignatius Winter brother of the before mentioned Charles Bruce Winter did by his last will and Testament bearing date the sixteenth day of March in the year seventeen hundred and seventy seven devise a tract or parcel of Land unto the aforesaid Charles Bruce Winter in and by the words following that is to say "I give and bequeath unto my brother Charles Bruce Winter and his heirs lawfully begotten for ever all that tract or parcel of land being part of the land called the Deep Valies I purchased of John Bruce as by the last will and Testament of the said Ignatius Winter will fully appear And whereas the before mentioned Charles Bruce Winter by his last Will and Testament bearing date the twenty first day of February in the year seventeen hundred and eighty five did desire unto the said Elizabeth Winter party to these presents in the words following that is to day "I give and bequeath unto well beloved wife Elizabeth Winter all and continues here to live in Durham Parish and removes none of my thing down to Newport agane but if she remove any of the good chattel or negroes to Newport then to have and enjoy only one third of my estate and if the child should live to let my sister Elizabeth Winter have the bring --- it up and allowance out of my estate to that purpose of maintaining and educating it If my wife Elizabeth Winter have no child she is to enjoy my whole estate provided she do not remove the Newport nor marreys against my friends will to have and to hold and quietly enjoy on the above terms forever" And whereas the above mentioned Elizabeth Winter party to this Indenture hath this twenty fifth day of February seventeen hundred and ninety nine contracted and bargained with the above named Walter Winter for the sale of all her right title interest property claim and demand whether in Law or Equity of in and to the before mentioned lands devised as aforesaid by the above mentioned John Winter and Ignatius Winter to the before mentioned Charles Bruce Winter and by the said Charles Bruce Winter to the said Elizabeth Winter Now This Indenture Witnesses that the said Elizabeth Winter for and in consideration of the one third part of the lands devised by the above mentioned John Winter father of the aforesaid Walter Winter to his son John Winter the late husband of the said Elizabeth Winter [by which said devise the said John Winter the devisee took only an estate for life in the said lands] having been by deed of Indenture bearing the same date with these presents conveyed by the said Walter Winter to her the said Elizabeth Winter during her life and also for and in consideration of the sum of five shillings Current money of Maryland to her the Said Elizabeth Winter in hand paid by the said Walter Winter before the ensealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof she doth hereby acknowledge hath given granted bargained and sold aliened enfeofed released and confirmed and by these presents doth give grant bargain and sell alien enfeof release and confirm unto him the said Walter Winter his heirs and Assigns forever all and Singular the before mentioned Tracts parts of Tracts or parcels of land devised as aforesaid by the before mentioned John Winter to his son Charles Bruce Winter and the aforesaid and Ignatius Winter to the said Charles Bruce Winter and by the said Charles Bruce Winter to the said Elizabeth Winter with their and every of their rights members and appurtenances whatsoever and the Reversion and reversions Remainder and Remainders of all and Singular the said land Tenements Hereditaments and premises hereby granted or mentioned to be hereby grant and of every part and parcel thereof and also all the estate right title interest property claim and demand whether in Law or Equity of her the said Elizabeth Winter of in and to the said before mentioned lands and premises and every part and parcel thereof with their and every of their appurtenances reserving nevertheless unto the Said Elizabeth Winter for and during her life one third part of the land devised as aforesaid by the above mentioned Ignatius Winter to the aforesaid Charles Bruce Winter To have and To hold all and singular the lands tenements hereditaments and premises before mentioned and every part and parcel thereof with their and every of their appurtenances unto the said Walter Winter his heirs and assigns forever Subject Nevertheless to the above mentioned reservation to the only proper use and behoof of the said Walter Winter his heirs and Assigns for ever In Witness whereof the said Elizabeth Winter hath to these presents subscribed her name and affixed her seal the day and year first above written E       At the foot of the aforegoing Deed was thus written to wit Charles County to wit Be it remembered that on the twenty fifth day of February in the year seventeen hundred and ninety nine personall appeared before me the Subscriber chief Justice of Charles County aforesaid the within named Elizabeth Winter party to the within and above indenture and acknowledged the same to be her act and deed and the lands and premisses therein and thereby conveyed and intended to be conveyed to be the right title and estate of the within named Walter Winter his heirs and assigns for ever according to the purport true intent and meaning of the said Indenture

      Mar. 1780 - At a land commission for Benjamin Benson's tracts "Oakington" and "Lye By," the second deposition of Walter Winter (age 34) mentions William Benson.

      Charles County, Maryland Land Records 1814-1817; Liber IB-11 {Abstract by Mike Marshall}; Page 303. At the request of Henry Gardiner the following Deed was recorded March 21, 1816
      Indenture made January 10, 1816; between William Campbell of Frederick County, Maryland and John Haw of Georgetown, District of Columbia of the one part and Henry Gardiner of CC of the other part. Whereas by the last will and testament of Walter Winter Jr. son of John late of CC bearing date February 17, 1799 and did on the records of the Orphans Court, William Campbell and John Haw were appointed executors jointly with Jean Winter late of CC executrix who are authorized and empowered to sell and dispose of the real estate and to convey the same after all the money owing from such sale have been received. And in pursuance of the last will and testament William Campbell and John Haw who have survived Jean Winter did on April 20, 1815 sell and dispose to Henry Gardiner for the sum of $12,000 current money of the United States parts of two tracts called "Westward Manor" containing 50 acres and "The Meadows" containing 888 ¾ of an acre. Now this indenture witnesseth that William Campbell and John Hall in consideration of the above recited premises and also the sum of $12,000 dollars current money of United States paid by Henry Gardiner have sold to him the two aforesaid tracts; "Westward Manor" which lies and is situated on the west side of a branch and run of water into which the spring on the East end of the burden dwelling house built by John Winter empties itself, the one conveyed by Thomas Middleton and wife on January 16, 1739 to John Winters or 50 acres of land and the other conveyed on 16 July 1739 by William Holt to John Winter also for 50 acres; and "The Meadows" which was patented to Thomas Gerard the younger on September 20, 1676 for the quantity of 400 acres of land also another tract called "Meadows Marsh" which was on June 10, 1734 patented to John Winter for the quantity of 200 acres which said two tracts by virtue of a special warrant of resurvey granted out of the law office for the Western shore of the state of Maryland on October 24, 1787 resurveyed and reduced into one entire tract called The Meadows which with the vacancies thereunto added contains the quantity of 888 ¼ acres.
