      Charles County Land Records 1786-1790; Liber D#4; Page 443. Mortgage, recorded at the request of Thomas How Ridgate. I, Walter McPherson, son of John of CC, planter, being indebted to Thomas How Redgate of CC, Merchant, in the just sum of 41 £4 shillings and 10 pence with legal interest, and in consideration of the afd sum and in order to secure the payment of the same with interest, and for 5 shillings to me in hand paid by sd Redgate, I sell to sd Ridgate, 2 Negroes, a man called Tom, aged about 30, and a woman called Cate and her increase, aged about 30 years. If, however, I pay sd Redgate the afd sum, 21 £in part of the sd sum, by Apr 7, 1790, and 20 £4 shillings and 10 pence by Apr 7, 1791, with interest, then this bill of sale to be void.
