Ordered of Administration is granted Mrs. ANN METCALF upon the Estate of her deced Husband, Mr. RICHARD METCALF, within this County, she giving in security
- Ordered that Mr. ALVIN MONJOY. Mr, SAMUEL BAYLY, Mr. RAWLEIGH TRAVERS, Mr. CHARLES BARBER or any three of them
sometime between this and the next Court held for this County do meet at the House of Mr. RICHARD METCALFE deced and do then and there Inventory and appraise in money all and singular the Estate of the said deced, the said appraisers in the appraisment aforesaid having regard to and setting apart all and singular the Estate of Colo, JOHN STONE late deced and now intermixt, with the Estate of the said RICHARD METCALF, and that they make report herein under their hands in writing to the said next Court. Capt. GEORGE TAYLER is requested to be present at the time and place to administer an oath unto the said appraisers for their true appraisment as also unto the Administrators for their true discovery of the said Estate

EDWARD BARROW and ANN his Wife, Relict of RICHARD METCALFE, deced., by their Petition praying the right of Dower which to ANN did belong of certaine lands which RICHARD died seized oflying and being in this County, and now in the possession ofthe Honble ROBERT CARTER Esqr., it being ordered at June Court last that the Sheriff ofthis County should summon ROBERT CARTER to shew cause why he did not assigne to ANN theDower which to her ofright did belong of the lands, And now at this Court ROBERT CARTER, Esqr. by DANIEL McCARTY, Gent., his Attorney, appeareing and saying nothiilg in barr thereof, it is considered andaccordingly ordered that the Sherff of this County doe forthwith give unto EDWARD BARROW and ANN his Wife the peaceable and quiett possession of the Dower ofand in the lands which of right to ANN belongs and lawfully appertaines being in the possession of ROBERT CARTER, Esqr. and that ROBERT CARTER pay to EDWARD BARROW costs of suite by him this behalfe expended and that he have Execution thereon

- GILBERT METCALFE, AUSTIN BROCKENBROUGH and WILLIAM FANTLEROY came into Court and acknowledged their Bond to the Court for GILBERT METCALFE's delivering to JANE METCALFE, one of the Daughters of RICHARD METCALFE, deced., her part of her Father's Estate put in his hands according to the Award of the Honble. ROBERT CARTER, Esqr., in that behalfe, wch: is ordered to be recorded
- Whereas JANE METCALFE, one of the Daughters of RICHARD METCALFE, decded., and Sister of GILBERT METCALFE and now maintained by him, clayming of EDWARD BARROW and ANNE his Wife, her part or portion of her said deced. Father's Estate for the prevention of further trouble hath agreed to stand to the Award of the Honble ROBERT CARTER, Esqr., in that behalfe, and EDWARD BARROW having also agreed to performe what he should adjudge equitable therein; And ROBERT CARTER, Esqr., having awarded that EDWARD BARROW upon settling all matters with GILBERT METCALFE, and said GILBERT giving good security to the Court to be answerable to said JANE for her said portion the interest thereof, that EDWARD BARROW pay unto GILBERT METCALFE in money sterling by good bills of Exhange to the value of the eighth part of RICHARD METCALFE, deced., his Estate according to the appraisment thereof or else in good young Negroes to said JANE and to be for her maintenance, to the value by four substantial men of the neighbourhood, and GILBERT METCALFE having this day given such security to the Court as aforesaid, Judgment is thereupon granted him against EDWARD BARROW and ANNE his Wife, for the value of one eighth part of RICHARD METCALFE, deced., his Estate according to the appraisment thereof; And it is ordered that EDWARD BARROW and ANNE his Wife pay the same to said GILBERT for the use aforesd.according to the portent and meaning of the Award, als exo

THIS INDENTURE made the Twentieth day of August in the Fourth year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord George by the grace of God, King of Great Brittain France and Ireland, Defendr: of the faith &c., Annoq: Domini 1717; Between EDWARD BARROW of Parish of Northfarnham in County of Richmond, Gent., and ANNE his Wife, of one part and JOHN METCALFE of Parish and County aforesaid of other part; Witnesseth that EDWARD BARROW and ANNE his Wife for sume of Five shillings Sterling to them in hand paid by JOHN METCALFE by these presents doe bargain and sell to JOHN METCALFE and assignes all that Divident of Land scituate in Parish of Northfarn ham and County of Richmond containing by estimation Three hundred Thirty eight acres be the same more or less and bounded; Beginning at a red Oak on the East side of RAPPAHANOCK CREEK standing in a Point near the Creek next below the Bridge or Road, thence running East into ye Woods 266 perches to a Branch, thence running along the sd. Branch S: 11 degrees E: 76 perches and S: 30 degrees E: 40 perches, thence S 48 degrees E: 36 perches to a corner white Oak, thence S: 77 degrees W: to the Creek, thence along the sd: Creek to the place it began; which land was formerly purchased by sd; ANNE BARROW (when sole) by the name of ANNE METCALFE of THOMAS FRESHWATER and MARY his Wife and RICHARD DOZIER and ELIZABETH his Wife; Together with all houses orchards priviledges & appurtenances belonging; To have and to hold the tract of land with the appurtenances unto JOHN METCALFE and assignes dureing the full terme of one whole year; paying therefore unto EDWARD BARROW and ANNE his Wife their heirs the rent of one Ear of Indian Come at the Feast of St. John Baptist next ensuing if lawfully demanded to the intent that by vertue of these p:sents and of the Statute for transferring uses into possession sd. THIS INDENTURE made the Second day of September in the year of Our Lord one thousand seven hundred and twenty three; Between ANN BARROW Widow of EDWARD BARROW late of the County of RICHMOND, Gent. deceased, and EDWARD BARROW, Son and Heir of the said EDWARD BARROW, of one part and the Honourable ALEXANDER SPOTSWOOD of GERMANNA in Spotsylvania County on the other part; Witnesseth that ANN BARROW and EDWARD BARROW in consideration of the SUME of five shillings of lawfull money of Great Brittain to them or one of them in hand paid by ALEXANDER SPOTSWOOD, the receipt whereof they do hereby acknowledge and for divers other good causes and considerations them thereunto moving have and each of them have and by these presents do bargain and sell unto ALEXANDER SPOTSWOOD all the parcell of land lying at or near the Mines in the Parish of Saint George in the County of Spotsylvania bounded, Begining at a red Oak standing by the RIVER RAPPAHANNOCK in low land on the lower side of a small Branch against the land now or late in the possession of one EDWARD JOYE, runing from thence down the River according to the severall courses thereof and binding thereon, South thirty one degrees East one hundred and fourteen perches South fifty two perches South twenty five degrees West one hundred and fifty perches crossing a Branch, South thirty eight degrees West fifty two perches crossing another Branch, South four degrees West thirty eight perches,. South twenty one degrees East twenty seven perches crossing a Branch to a black Oak and Gum standing in a piece of low land among many stones by the said River about fifteen perches above GREAT STONEY RUN, thence South fifty nine degrees West thirty two perches crossing over a stoney point to a Ridge of Hills to a red Oak standing on the South side of the said STONEY RUNN by a great Rock a little before a small Fall, thence crossing the said Runn North twenty nine degrees East seventy six perches to a rine standing on a Ridge, thence North thirty two degrees East one hundred and twenty nine perches crossing two Branches, thence North seven degrees West two hundred and fourty two poles crossing another Branch to a Stake standing by a Pine, thence South eighty seven degrees and a half East sixty poles to the red Oak at the begining place the above mentioned containing by estimation one hundred and seventy seven acres and forty six perches of land be the same more or less together with all advantages and appurtenances to the land belonging; To have and to hold the tract of land and other the premises unto ALEXANDER SPOTSWOOD and assigns from the day before the date of these presents for the term of one whole year paying therefore to ANN BARROW and EDWARD BARROW their heirs the rent of one grain of Indian Corn upon the Feast day of the Nativity of Our Lord Christ now next ensueing if the same be lawfully demanded to the intent that by vertue of these presents and of the Statute for transferring uses into possession, ALEXANDER SPOTSWOOD may be in actuall possession of the premises and thereby enabled to accept a grant of the reversion and inheritance thereof to him and his heirs by Indenture of Release intended to be made between ANN BARROW and EDWARD BARROW of one part and ALEXANDER SPOTSWOOD of the other part, In Witness whereof the parties first above named to hese presents interchangeably their hands and seals have put the day and year first above written
