      Stephen Chandler's Will.
      I, Stephen Chandler of CC, am sick and weak of body but of perfect sense, disposing mind and memory_ Firstly, I want my just debts paid.
      To my son John Chandler - about 100 acres of land, lying to the east of my dwelling plantation, by a line drawn from a bound stone the 2nd boundary of a tract of land called Barn Hills, & the beginning of a resurvey of mine called St. Stephens, bounded by the line of Rich Hill, now in the possession of the Revd Richd Brown, there being included a tract of land called Marrow Cone lane. Also part of a tract called Green bank & part of the above tract called St. Stephen (my father's burying ground excepted, to be for the use of the family to bury them) & no more.
      To my son Williamson Chandler - 1 Negro called George & 50 £current money.
      To my son Henry Chandler - 1 Negro girl called Judy & 1 Negro boy called harry, Also 1000 lbs of crop tobacco & 7 £10 shillings current money, to be paid to Henry by my executors after Henry pays off a bond which I gave to George Scrogin and Minitree for the payment of 81 £3 shillings & 10 pence 3 farthings Maryland currency, due from the above, sd Henry, to Mary Ann King, daughter of the late Benjamin King decd.
      To my daughter Lucy Cox - 1 Negro girl called Selea.
      To my son Samuel Chandler - the tract of land whereon I now live, called Barkers Rest, and all the land I hold adjoining thereto (except that 100 acres before mentioned to my son John Chandler). But if Samuel dies without lawful issue or deed of sale for the land, then I want the land willed him to fall to my 2 sons, Walter Story Chandler & William Pen Chandler. If either Walter or William die without lawful issue or deed of sale, want the abovesd tract to fall to the one surviving, & in case they both die without issue or deed of sale, then I want the afd land to fall to the heirs of my daughter, Lucy Cox.
      To my son Walter Story Chandler - 2 Negro boys, to wit, Walter & Charles.
      To my son William Penn Chandler - a tract of land on Goose Cr (CC) adjoining the Pointin Manor ("and likewise the William & James") called St. Mack, containing 58 acres, as per patent. But if he dies without lawful issue, the land is to fall to my son Williamson Chandler, and for want of such heirs, to the heirs of my son Henry Chandler.
      To my wife Joan Chandler - the use of my dwelling plantation during her natural life, and one third of my personal estate, to wit, Negroes, stock, house furniture "&c &c". I want the remaining two thirds to be equally divided among my 4 youngest children, to wit, Samuel, Walter Story, & William Penn Chandler, & Lucy Cox.

      Probated on Oct 1, 1785 by executors Jean Chandler & Hugh Cox and by the oaths of all 3 witnesses. Letters Testamentary were granted to Jane Chandler & Hugh Cox, the executors; their securities were James Farnandis & Samuel Cox. Appraisers: Hoskins Hanson, Nathaniel Freeman.

      George Keech Sr. December 30, 1791; January 30, 1792
      I, George Keech of CC, being weak and weak of body but of sound and disposing mind and memory;
      To my wife Charity Keech all the land during the term of her life and one moiety of my personal estate.
      Whereas my nephew John Keech claims part of the land devised to my wife, in case he should disturb my wife in the peaceful possession, then the whole of my land to be sold after the decease of my wife and the monies equally distributed to the children of my brother James Keech and ll the children of my sister Ann Parker; However if the said John Keech does not disturb my wife, then after her decease all my real estate of whatsoever nature to him.
      To my nephew John Keech after the decease of my wife, the other moiety of my personal estate, paying unto my three nieces Casandra Smallwood, Sarah Turner and Sarah Keech the sum of twenty five pounds current money each one year after the decease of my wife.

      I, Benjamin Douglass of CC being sick and weak but of sound mind and understanding
      To son Richard Land Douglass all the land I now possess, negros Yellow Henry, Clerisa, Jack, Yellow Jack, Cate and Sall, with the provision that the three last negros will not be moved without their consent from the land which I formerly lived.
      To my daughter Mary Grove Douglas, negro Jude, Puss, Phil, Ned and Alse
      To my friend Katherine Freeman, all my wering apparel excep my gold ring button and silver bucklers which I desire may be kept by my executos and given to my son Richard Land Douglass at 21yrs.
      To two children, the residue of my estate equally. In case they die, my estate to be devided between my brothers and sisters or their children (un-named).

      Charles County Land Records 1792-1796; Liber N#4; Page 444. Aug 19, 1795 from Hugh Cox of CC, to Matthew Blair of CC. Stephen Chandler, late of CC, decd, by his will dated Jun 9, 1785, devised to his son, Samuel Chandler, a certain tract of land whereon sd Stephen Chandler lived, called Barkers Rest, and also all the land held by sd Stephen Chandler, adjoining sd tract called Barkers, except 100 acres devised by the CC will of sd Stephen Chandler to his son, John Chandler. Sd Samuel Chandler, by CC deed dated Jun 19, 1789, sold to sd Hugh Cox all the afd land, devised as afd unto sd Samuel Chandler by his father, Stephen Chandler.
      Sd Hugh Cox, by virtue of an assignment from Samuel Chandler afd, of a special warrant of resurvey, granted out of the Maryland Land Office on Jan 18, 1786 to the afd Samuel Chandler to resurvey [blank] acres, part of a tract of land called Saint Stephen, in CC, originally, on Apr 1, 1754, granted to Stephen Chandler for 198 acres, with permission by sd warrant to correct any errors in the original survey, and to add any vacant land thereto contiguous, caused sd warrant of resurvey, to be executed by Theophilus Hanson, the CC Surveyor. Sd Theophilus Hanson returned a certificate and plat of sd resurvey, and that he had resurveyed in the name of sd Hugh Cox, the land in sd warrant mentioned, and that the same contained within the bounds of the original tract called Saint Stephen, 97-1/2 acres, to which land he had added 31 acres 2 rood and 18 perches of vacant land, and that he had reduced the whole into the entire tract now called Cox's Purchase, and bounded as in sd certificate mentioned, containing 129 acres and 18 perches, as by sd certificate, dated Sep 5, 1786, and returned to the Maryland Land Office. Now this deed witnesses that sd Hugh Cox, for 412 £10 shillings, has sold to sd Matthew Blair, the afd tracts above mentioned, devised by afd Stephen Chandler to sd Samuel Chandler, and by sd Samuel chandler sold to sd Hugh Cox. Also, Coxes Purchase. Signed - Hugh Cox. Wit - James Freeman*, William Bruce*. Recorded Aug 19, 1795.
