      - Leroy GRIFFIN, will; 8 Apr 1749, 6 Aug 1750
      Being at this time free from aches and ills either of body or mind; my body is to be deposited in the earth, its natural mother, in the foll. manner: so soon as my coffin can be prepared,
      I desire that six of the neighboring gentlemen, my intimate acquaintances, may convey me to the place appointed for my reception and the minister perform the burial service without sermon and for this service I give a mourning ring of 20 shillings value to the minister and each of the six gentlemen that perform the last office of friendship to me;
      [I'll] have no ceremonious pomp but a dinner prepared by the gentlemen and they to be entertained in the same manner as if myself was present, and I ernestly forbid that any expense be made as to mourning except for my wife because I look upon it as a needless and very extraordinary charge in a large family; now, as to temporals: Imprimus.
      I think no method which I can fall upon can provide so well for my loving woman, Mary Anne GRIFFIN, as the
      provision which the law has made in that case and that she, my sd. wife, may not be in any manner obligated
      to her child., I desire her thirds of my est. may be allotted so soon as may be after my decease...;
      after wife's decease, her one third to be div. among all surviving chil. and not to rescind to heir at law;
      son Thomas Bertrand part of land at the head of Farnham Creek; son Leroy riverside tract;
      dau. Elizabeth small part of my forest land that includes my plantations where Thomas BROOME, James BRANNAN, and Jane OSGRIFFIN now live;
      son Corbin all the remainder of my land in Rich. Co; now, as an inference may be fairly drawn, from my disposal of my lands as aforesaid, that Thomas Bertrand, my eld. son, will inherit that seat of land whereon Mr. William BERTRAND of Lanc. Co. now lives as being entailed on his heirs and having none other child at present except my wife; however, should it unluckily happen that by a wife hereafter the sd. William BERTRAND, Gent. should have heirs, to deprive my sd. wife and son from inheriting, so that the land be lost from my family, then my will is that my homeland be eq. div. between my sons, Thomas Bertrand and Leroy, that my son Corbin has 1000 ac. of my forest land in one piece where he pleases, and that the residue of my forest lands, except my dau's before given, be eq. div. between my two sons, Thomas and Leroy, but if that tract of land descends to us, as I hope it will, my lands to be as above given;
      son William tract in Prince George Co. bought of Isham EPPES containing 750 ac. and his choice of any two of
      the lots in Blandford Town;
      desires his ex. to purchase a tract of good land not under 500 ac. and not above 50 miles from Bolling's Point to give to son William;
      son Samuel tract in Prince George Co. bought of Thomas WILLIAMS containing 800 ac. and the remaining lot of
      land in Blandford Town;
      tract of 200 ac. in Prince George Co. bought of Thomas WILLIAMS to be eq. div. between sons William and Samuel;
      son Cyrus 1292 ac. in Brunswick Co to go with lot of land in Petersburg Town;
      ex: wife, Samuel and William PEACHEY, William GLASCOCK, and John TARPLEY;
      "And this my last will, I pray ye fulfill, exactly as I have designed it;
      that quarrels mayn't rise, on this present devise, because in plain words you will find it."
      Wits: A. ANDERSON, John HILL
      Jr, Robert FORRESTER.
      Cod., 30 May 1750, child wife now goes with to receive 1880 ac. in Prince William Co. purchased of Mr. JONES
      dau. Elizabeth, to receive the plant. whereon Samuel ROLLINS now lives;
      wits: James CRAIG, Robert FORRESTER, Anne DODSON.
