    • Ignatius Wheeler, He died in 1699 in Charles County, Maryland. Ignatius Wheeler was born in Charles County, Maryland, May 1665 (Md Archives Vol 60, p 117). He married Francis Slye 11 Nov 1693 (Chancery Records No 3, Pl 1093).

      He was a planter and bought a tract of land containing 116 acres in Charles County, Maryland from William Hutchinson on 20 Mar 1688. He named this tract of land "Wheeler's Folly". It adjoined his tract of 205 acres he called "Indian Field" (Land Record Liber 11, p 432). He sold the 116 acre tract, "Wheeler's Folly" to Henry Quandro in 1695 (Liber Q 11, p 83) and the 205 acre tract, "Indian Field" to Thomas Bowling on 22 Feb 1696. Ignatius Wheeler patented 113 acres called "Red Bird Thickett" in 1697. His son, Luke, sold the land in 1728 (Liber DB-M, p 305). He made his home on a 600 acre tract called "Planter's Delight" (Liber DB-H #2, p 270). Frances Slye, his wife, inherited from her father, Robert Slye, a 250 acre tract called "Rich Neck" (Md Calendar of wills 1.422).

      Ignatius Wheeler's will was signed 14 Mar 1698 in Charles County, Maryland and it was probated 3 Aug 1698 (Md Calendar of Wills Liber 6, folio 296). In his will he leaves "To unborn child, 208 A., "New Design" at Pormunky. This unborn child was his son Ignatius who was born in 1698. The Inventory of his estate was filed without a date. The estate was valued at 63 pounds, 15 shillings and 5 pence and 1,063 lbs. Tobacco.

      John and Mary Wheeler settled in Province of MD prior to 1658. Their son, Ignatius Wheeler married Frances Gardiner*, dau of Richard Gardiner who came to MD on the Ark and the Dove. The will of Ignatius Wheeler of Charles County, Maryland made 14 Mar 1698 and proved 3 Aug 1698 names his wife, Frances, and in the event of her death during the minority of their children, the children to be placed under the care of Luke Gardiner., brother in law.

      Indenture made April 27, 1793; whereas Ignatius Wheeler {d. 1698} of Charles County, Maryland did by his deed dated February 11, 1695 for divers causes and considerations did demise and to farm let unto Henry Quandoe a tract called "Wheelers Folly" containing 116 acres and lying in Charles County, Maryland (now in PGCo) for the term of 99 years and also covenanted that at any time before the expiration of the term at the request of Henry Quandoe execute a further demise for 99 years or a longer time; and whereas Henry Quandoe by his deed dated January 1, 1718 did demise and to farm let the tract unto Edward Stevens which at his decease became the right of William Stevens, his eldest son, who by his deed dated December 19, 1778 conveyed the tract to his son Thomas Darnall Stevens, who by his deed dated July 25, 1792 conveyed the tract "Wheelers Folly" unto Alexander Hamilton. Now this indenture witnesseth that Ignatius Wheeler of St. Mary's County, Maryland, heir at law of Luke Wheeler {d. 1742} late of said county who was heir at law of Ignatius Wheeler {d. 1698} of Charles County, Maryland, in consideration of the covenants and 10 shillings paid by Alexander Hamilton has demised and to farm let unto him the aforesaid tract "Wheelers Folly" containing 116 acres and beginning at the 5th bound tree of "Indian Field" for the term of 999 years commencing February 20, 1794.
