      Know that I, Mary Hemsley of Annapolis in Anne Arundel County, widow, for the love I have for my sister, Mrs. Judith Bruce of CC decd, I give unto her 4 children, viz
      To Charles Bruce, eldest son of the afd Judith - 1 Negro boy called Toney, aged about 5 years.
      To Townley Bruce, youngest son - a Negro boy named Nacey, aged about 16 months, both being the sons ofa Negro woman called Jeany.
      To Francis [sic] Bruce, eldest daughter of the afd Judith - a Negro girl called Bett, daughter of a Negro woman called Sarah, aged about 2 years.

      Notly Maddox, Guardian of Charles Bruce, returns to this Court the following certificate of the view of the lands belonging to his ward: CC. Whereas Notly Maddox, Guardian of Charles Bruce, son of John Bruce, late of CC, Gent, decd, applied himself to Robert Yates, a CC Justice, to appoint persons to view that part Land now laid out and appointed for his sd ward, the sd part being part of that tract of land whereon the sd John Bruce, decd, did live, which we have viewed: 1 16 feet Quarter, 12 feet wide, with a closet and outside chimney, good, 1 old mill house, rotten and out of repair, 1 old 50 feet tobacco house much out of repair, 1 house 16 and 12, old and sorry, 79 old sorry apple trees, 189 panels of new fence, 279 panels of good fence, 666 panels of old fence, and no timber on sd land to keep the sd housing and fencing in repair. Liberty is therefore granted to the sd Guardian to get timber of any other of the sd orphan's land to keep it in repair. The annual value of sd land being worth 1000 lbs of tobacco per year.       Mar 1, 1743[/4] from Charles Bruce of CC, Gent:, to Robert Yates and Sarah, his wife, of CC, for 15,000 lbs tobacco, and for the execution of a deed of even date with these presents, by which deed he, the said Robert and Sarah relinquished their right of dower to 2 tracts of land, and for divers other good causes, Charles Bruce hereby sells to Robert Yates and Sarah, his wife, or the survivor of them, the 3 following tracts of land, during their natural lives; that is to say, one tract of land in CC near Wicomico River side, being one moiety of the land which originally was the land of William Marshall of CC, and assigned by said Marshall to Walter Bayne, which assignment was dated Sep 29, 1664, and afterwards conveyed by Walter Bayne and Martha, his wife, to Mary Contee by deed dated Oct 3, 1709, and also divided between Colo: John Fendall, and John Bruce, natural guardian to the said Charles Bruce. The land is bounded by a red oak standing in the woods by the land of Charles Yates, containing apd laid out for about 225 acres. But as the tract of land (to wit the whole 450 acres) was divided during the minority of the said Charles Bruce, which division is not good and available in law, but of necessity the tract must or may be divided again, between the heir or devisee of sd Colo John Fendall, and Robert Yates or Sarah, his wife, or the survivor of them; then, and in such case, I, said Charles Bruce, sell to Robert Yates and Sarah, his wife, or the survivor of them, the one moiety of the whole tract so divided, which, by choice or otherways, may happen to fall to their lots by any division so made, between the heir or devisee of sd John Fendall and Robert Yates or Sarah, his wife, or the survivor of them, according to the metes and bounds at such time hereafter made and fixed, for and during their natural lives, another tract of land called Himslays Marsh, lying on the west side of Wicomico River in CC, adjoining to the land of Colo John Fendall and Charles Yates, bounded by the edge of Wicomico Marsh, containing and laid out for about 70 acres, as appears by patent granted to Mad.m Mary Hamsly on May 2, 1723, and also another tract of land called Hemesley Meadows, lying on the west side of Wicomico River in CC, adjoining the land of Colo John Fendall and Thomas Marshall in CC, bounded by Wicomico Marsh, Clarks Run, containing and laid out for about 130 acres (as appears by patent, granted to Mad.m Mary Hemsley on May 2, 1723).       CC. Mar 15, 1743[/4]. Then received of the within mentioned Townley Bruce by the hand of Mr. William Dent, 8 shillings sterling as a fine for the alienation of the within mentioned land for the use of the Lord Baltimore, and by virtue of a Commission from Benjamin Tacker, Esq.

      Apr 10, 1744 from Charles Bruce of CC, to John Groves and Possume, his wife, of CC, for and in consideration of the yearly rent and covenants hereinafter expressed, the lease of the messuage [messuage?] or parcel of land, being part of that tract of land called Hattens Point, lying in CC, and bounded by the mouth of Hattens Cr, the line of Edwards Smoots, containing and now laid out for about 100 acres, during the natural lives of him, John Groves and Possume, his wife, or the survivor of them.       Know that Robert Yates of CC, and Sarah, his wife, relict and executrix of John Bruce, late of CC, Gent:, deceased, for and in consideration that Charles Bruce of Cc, son and heir at law of sd John Bruce, has, by deed dated with these presents, made over to sd Robert Yates and Sarah, his wife, the 3 following tracts of land (that is to say), one tract being near Wicomico River in CC, being one moiety of the tract of land that was conveyed by Walter Bayne and Martha, his wife, to Mary Contee, by deed dated Oct 3, 1709, and as it was afterwards divided between Colo. Jno Fendall and John Bruce, natural guardian to the above mentioned Charles Bruce, being laid out for about 225 acres. The 2nd tract is called Hemsleys Marsh, lying on Wicomico River in CC, is laid out for 70 acres. The 3rd tract, called Hemsleys Meadows, lying on the River afd and in CC, is laid out for 130 acres. In consideration of the above deed, we will, next Dec 25, forever relinquish our right of dower to 2 tracts of land in CC, one called Batton's Point, and the other, Chesnut Point, late the proper estate of said John Bruce.
