- Dear Mrs. Snell,
-
Notes - George William Schlehuber, was born in 1842 probably in the area of Cincinnati, Ohio. Laurence Schlehuber Son of John, has in his records, that George was born in Brown County, Ohio. we know very little, of George as he was growing up. In fact we kind of lost him until in the very late days of the Civil War. So we do not know where he was before that. It seems he got married and went to war about the same time. He married Mary C. James on July 21, 1864 in Cincinnati, Hamilton county, Ohio. He enrolled as a Private in company F, 192nd Regiments Ohio Vol Infantry, on the 11th day of February, 1865. George was 23 years of age when he enrolled, and was mustered out on September 1, 1865. His name was spelled as Slahower, and also showed on the rolls and Shalzhuber. In the 1876 city directory George Schleguber is listed as a carpenter, an living on Colerain Pike in Cummingsville, Ohio. Cincinnati area. His father and mother are also living close by. After George's wife Mary died in 1882, his father, mother and Charles his son, we Know left for Nebraska. And in a year or so George left Ohio and went to Nebraska also. George homestead like the rest of his family, the deed reads as follows; W. & Wf. to O&RV RR Co. 18 August 1886. R of W NW 1/4 NW1/4 S10 NE 1/4 NE 1/4s9 T16 R24. He later also sold his land and went to Oklahoma for the land rush. After he got to Oklahoma, George's son Charles bought some land from his father-in-law (since he was unable to run for land) and George helped Charles build a house. George later married Aldulah J. Tulp on September 21, 1896 in Perry, Oklahoma. they were married for three years, until George died on September 19, 1899, in Stillwater, Payne County, Oklahoma.
