March 1741/1742: Petition of Mary Briscoe stating that Williamson Bruce, by the Court, had been put under the guardianship of John Briscoe, late of CC, dec'd, uncle to the sd. Williamson and husband to Mary. She is unwilling to keep the sd. Bruce or run the risk of his estate remaining in her hands. Ordered that the petitioner and Williamson Bruce do appear here next June Charles Co. Court. (Charles County Court Records, 1741-1743).
June 1742: Williamson Bruce, formerly under the guardianship of Mr. John Briscoe, late of Charles County, dec'd, on his motion to this Court, is admitted to choose his guardian, and accordingly makes choice of Mr. Samuel Briscoe, who in Court here accepts thereof, and is appointed accordingly. (Charles County Court Records, 1741-1743).
Notice the inventory amounts. They show that these probate documents were all for the same person, who was actually Williamson Bruce. Various documents often say "William" or "Winson" which on closer scrutiny turns out to be "Wm'son".

Mary Briscoe exhibited to this Court the following petition: the petition of Mary Briscoe of CC shows that whereas there was a Williamson Bruce, by your Worships put under the guardianship of John Briscoe, late of CC, decd, uncle to the sd Williamson and husband to your petitioner, that she is unwilling to keep the sd Bruce or run the risk of his estate now remaining in her hands. She therefore asks your worships to remove the sd Bruce and his estate to any person you think proper.
Ordered that the petitioner and Williamson Bruce do appear here next Jun CC Court.
