Yancey to Yancey Indenture
This indenture made the 24th day of February 1769 between Philemon Yancey and his wife of the County of Culpeper of the one part and Richard Yancey the said county of the other part. Witnesseth that Philemon Yancey and Unity Yancey his wife in consideration of 36 pounds current money of Virginia in hand has sold to Richard Yancey 117 acres, part of a tract of 500 acres belonging to Lewis Tapp and is bounded as followeth; beginning at a poplar on a branch running North 30° West 57 poles to a pine, thence North 39° West along the said Richard Yancey’s line 26 poles to two pines, thence with the said Yancey’s line North 60° West 140 poles to three pines, thence along Bourne’s line North 60° East 230 pole over a branch to one dead and one live pine, thence South 5° West 236 poles to the beginning. In witness whereof the parties to these presents have hereunto set their hands and fixed their seals the day and year first above written.

At a court held for the County of Culpeper on Friday the 16th day of June 1769 this indenture of feoffment from Philemon Yancey and Unity Yancey his wife to Richard Yancey together with the memorandum of livery of Seizin and receipt endorsed was proved by the oath of Samuel Clayton, Jr., Henry Pendleton and James Pendleton, witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded.

KNOW ALL MEN by these presents that I PHILEMON YANCEY of Culpeper for sum of Eighty pounds current money to me in hand paid by ROBERT PATTEN Merchant of Culpeper and Factor of Messrs. WILLIAM CUNNINGHAME and Company have sold unto said Robert Patten as Factor the following Negroe Slaves Viz. Doll and her child Matt to have said Slaves with their increase. In Witness whereof said Phileomon Yancey hath set his hand and Seal this ( ) day of April 1774.
