      ELIZABETH HOLLOWAY aged about 41 years being sworne saith that about two days before RICHARD COMPTON died, he being sick at this Deponts, House, JOHN RIDING came there & brought a bottle of Brandy for the said RICHARD & was gone, upon which MARY ROWZE said to the said RICHARD that the sd. RIDING was very kind to him, the sd. RICHARD answered not so kind as he would be to the sd RIDING for if he had any Estate to leave he would leave it all to the sd. RIDING and further saith not

      ELIZA. ROWZEE aged about 18 years being sworn saith that about three days before RICHD COMPTON died, she heard him say that he had left all his things to his Brother, JOHN RIDING, and further saith not.

      At a Court held for Essex County at Tappa: on the 17th day of January Anno Dom. 1748 This Nun cuptttive Will of RICHARD COMPTON deceased was presented in Court by JOHN RIDING and proved by the Oaths of both the witnesses thereto as ye Law in that case directs, which was therefore ordered to be recorded and is truly recorded; Thereupon Letters of Administration was granted to JOHN RIDING of ye sd. Will annexed and ye sd JOHN RIDING with WILLIAM THOMAS his security acknowledged their Bond for the sd. JOHN's due administration thereof, which is also rdered to be recorded as appears next after this recording. Test JOHN LEE, CIE. Cur.
      KNOW ALL MEN by these presents that we JOHN RIDING & WILLIAM THOMAS are held and firmly bound unto THOMAS WARING, BENJAMIN WINSLOW, FRANCIS WARING and SAMUEL HIPKINS, Gent., Justices of the peace for Essex County in the sum of Fifty pounds to the which payment well and truly to be made we bind ourselves our heirs firmly by these presents; Sealed with our seals dated this 17th day of January Anno Dom. 1748 and 22d year of his Majestys reign
      The Condition of this obligation is such that if the above bound JOHN RIDING, Administrator of all the goods chattles and credits of RICHARD COMPTON deceased, do make a true and perfect inventory of all the goods chattles and credits of the said deceased, and the same so made do exhibit in the County Court of Essex then thereunto required by the said Court; and the same goods chattles and credits do well and truly administer according to Law, & further do make a just and true account of his actings and doings therein when thereto required by ye said Court, shall deliver & pay unto such person or persons
      respectively as ye sd. Justices by their order or Judgment shall direct pursuant to ye Laws in that case made & provided & if it shall hereafter appear that any Last Will & Testament vas made by the said deceased, and the Executor therein named do exhibit ye same into ye sd. Court making request to have it allowed and approved, accordingly, if the said JOHN being thereunto required do render and deliver up Letters of Administration approbation of such Testament being first had and made in the said Court, then
      this obligation to be void and of none effect or else to remain in full force and virtue

      THIS INDENTURE made the 18th and 19th day of August in the year 1734 Between JOSEPH BILLAND [Beland] NOBLE of the Parish and County of AMELIA of the one part and THOMAS GATEWOOD of the Parish of Southfarnham and County of Essex of other part Witnesseth that sd Joseph Billand Noble for sum Twelve hundred pounds of Tobacco by these presents doth grant unto sd Thomas Gatewood & unto his heirs and assigns forever a Certain parcel of land in the aforesd County of Essex and Parish of Southfarnham being part of a Tract of Two hundred acres of land that formerly belonged to JOSEPH BILLAND containing Seventy Five acres and adjoyning to the land of the sd Thomas Gatewood and bounded beginning at a Corner white oak standing in the line of sd Thomas Gatewood and running thence West along the line of the said Gate- wood to a Corner Ring Oak standing on a small hill thence West to a Corner of WILLIAM DICKS to a spanish oak thence South to a Corner Pine of ye sd Thomas Gatewoods thence West along the line of sd Gatewoods to the beginning all which sd premises are now in the actual possession of said Thomas Gatewood by virtue of Indenture of Bargain and Sale and by virtue of the Statute for transferring uses into possession , . .

Witnesseth that JANE COMPTON, JOHN COMPTON and ELIZABETH his Wife for the sum of Fifty five pounds current money of Virginia to them in hand paid by WILLIAM COMPTON by these presents doth bargain sell and confirm unto WILLIAM COMPTON his heirs all the Estate right title and demand which is now due to them in a certain tract of land containing One hundred and twenty five acres more or less, Fifty acres part thereof being formerly purchased by WILLIAM COMPTON deceased of REBECCA BELL [sic Beland] and JOHN and MARY ADCOCK as by their Deed to said WILLIAM bearing date the 10th day of May in year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and Ten may appear, and Seventy five acres, the other part thereof, being purchased by said RICHARD COMPTON deceased of JOSEPH ADCOCK and ELIZABETH his Wife as by their Deed to said RICHARD dated Sept. the 15th 1730 it doth appear, which land is scituate in the Parish of Southfarnham in County of Essex and bounded, Beginning a corner red Oak by the Marsh side a corner between ye said land and the land of JOHN DIX, tuning thence South to another red Oak, a corner of THOMAS HAILE, thence along the line of THOMAS HAILE and the line of BENJAMIN HAILE to another corner red Oak, a corner of said HAILEs and JAMES ALLEN, thence by the line of said ALLEN to a corner Pine, a corner of said ALLEN and THOMAS GATEWOOD, thence along the line of said GATEWOOD to the beginning; together with all houses orchards profitts and appurtenances to the same belonging; To have and to hold the said premises unto WILLIAM COMPTON his heirs sufficiently indemnified from all Incumbrances whatsoever suffered by JANE COMPTON, JOHN COMPTON and ELIZABETH his Wife their heirs; to be holden to our Sovereign Lord the King his heirs by the quitrents accustomed; In Witness whereof they the said JANE COMPTON, JOHN COMPTON and ELIZABETH his Wife have affixed their hands and seals the day and year above written Sign'd Sealed and Delivered in presence of
