      WILL OF WILLIAM FAUNTLEROY
      In the name of God, Amen. I, William Fauntleroy of the county of Richmond & parish of Luninburg being in Perfect sence and Memorie do make this my last will in manner Following, my soul I chearfully Resigne to God that gave it, in hopes of Pardon & acceptance thro the satisfaction and Merits of my Redeemer, My Body to the Earth to be Inter'd at the discretion of my Exors & the worldly Estate God has blessed me with I give, devise and bequeath as Follows :
      Imprimis the land I bought of Emanvell Cleaves, Matthew Thornton, Hopkins Thornton & Colo. John Tayloe which are contigues Lieing Between Rappahannock Creek & the doctors creek I Give & bequeath to my son William Fauntleroy & his heirs forever.
      I also give to my son William Fauntleroy the Lands I bought of Capt. John Spicer, Capt. Daniell McCarty, Matthew Davis & the Court house land which I bought of the County which are Contigious & makes the tract I now live on liing Chefly within my out pasture fence to my aforesaid son William Fauntleroy & to the heirs of his Body Lawfully Begotten forever & to continue in the name & Family of the Fauntleroys forever, not to be disposde off. Item I give and bequeath the Lands I bought of Mr. Edward Barron, James Hearne & Jane McClinch to my son Moore Fauntleroy & his heirs forever.
      I alsoe give my said son Moore Fauntleroy all my said Land Cold Quintanoake that was given to me by my Grandfather Griffin to him and his heirs Forever with that Prouser (sic) my son Moore Fauntleroy gives his son George Hale Fauntleroy all the Lands that was his Mothers, Otherwise I give the said Quintanoake Lands to my Grandson George Hale Fauntleroy & his heirs forever.
      Item. I give & Bequeath the Lands I Bought of Mr. Thomas Wright Belfield, Mr. James Skelton, Mrs. Mary Belfield & Daniell Daley all Lieing in Essex County to my son John Fauntleroy together with all ye negroes
      I formerly gave him to him & his Heirs forever.
      Item. I give & Bequeath to my three sons William, Moore and John Fauntleroy all my Lands in Carroline County allsoe I give to my said three sons six negroes Viz; Cannady, Betty Bachell Rose & Samphrim and Joe to Remain in my three sons hands for the support of my daughter Sarah Gray & hur children
      Item I give & bequeath to my son William Fauntleroy the negroes I formerly gave to him together with four negroes Viz. Tim, Duncin Moll & Falls to him and his heirs forever.
      Item I give and bequeath to my son Moore Fauntleroy all the negroes I formerly gave him to him & his heirs forever.
      Item I give & Bequeath to all my Grand Children one young negrow apiece to be chose out of my young negroes by my Executors hereafter mentioned Excepting those off my Grand Children that I have allready given young negroes to and the Negroes that I now give to be about the age of my Grand Children.
      Item I give and bequeath to my Daughter Hanah Robinson the negro wench I formerly gave her & all her Increase an Fifty Pounds Cash to her and her heirs forever.
      Item I give & Bequeath to my Daughter Apphia Dangerfield Fifty Pounds Cash.
      Item I give & Bequeath to my Daughter Catherine Lewis Fifty Pounds Cash & the negro wench I formerly gave her & hur Increase to hur & hur heirs forever.
      Item I give & bequeath to my Daughter Mary Brooke* Fifty Pounds Cash & the negrow wench I formerly gave hur & hur Increase to hur and hur heirs forever.
      Item I give & bequeath to my Daughter Ann Pettitt the negro wench winney I formerly gave hur & hur Increase to hur & hur heirs forever and one morning Ring.
      Item I give & bequeath to my Grandson Henry Robinson son to my daughter Hannah Robinson Two hundred pounds Cash to be laid out by my Exors within three years after my death in young Negrow girls about ten years of age each and one Eight Part of my negroes that I have not as yet given to be delivered him by my Executors hereafter named.
      Item I give & bequeath to my three sons William, Moore & John Fauntleroy Each of them one Eight part of my Negroes to them & their heirs forever & Each of them one seventh part of my Personal Estate to them & and their heirs forever.
      Item I give and bequeath to my four grand children Mary, Martha, Lucy & Leroy Daingerfield Children to my Daughter Apphia Daingerfield one Eight part of my Negroes not yet disposd of to be Equally Divided amongst them To them & their heirs forever & allso I give one seventh part of my personall Estate & that seventh part to be sold for Ready money & the money laid out in young female negroes to be divided amongst them by my Exors hereafter named.
      Item I give & bequeath to my three sons William, Moore & John Fauntleroy one Eight part of my negroes & one seventh part of my personall Estate to Remain in my three sons hands for the suport of my Daughter Sarah Gray & her Children and at her decease to be Equally divided amongst hur Children.
      Item I give & bequeath to my Daughter Katherine Lewis one Eight Part of my negroes not disposd off & one seventh part of my other Personal Estate to hur & hur heirs forever.
      Item I give and bequeath to my Grandson Robert Brooke* son of my Daughter Mary Brooke one Eight part of my Negroes not disposd off to him and his heirs forever & the seventh part'. of my other personal Estate & that seventh part to be sold for ready money and all the money so Raised laid out in young negroes Girls for his use by my Exors hereafter named with three years after my death.
      Lastly I doe hereby constitute and appoint my Kinsman the Honourable John Tayloe Esqr and my three sons William, Moore & John Fauntleroy, Executors of this my last will and Testament Revokein & disannulling all Every other heretofore made By me under the Testimoney of my hand & seale this 26th day of October 1757.

      IN THE NAME OF GOD, Amen. I HANNAH COOPER of Parish of Cople in County of Westmoreland and Colony of Virginia, Widow, being in perfect sense & memory, thanks be to Almighty God for it. doe make and declare this to be my Last Will and Testament in manner and form following;
      Imprimis. My will and desire is that when BUSHROD THOMAS arives to the age of Twelve years that my Executor hereafter named put him to School two years and find the said BUSHROD THOMAS good Claothing diett& all other necessaries during the said two years, and when he the said BUSHROD THOMAS comes to the age of Twenty years my will is that my Executor pay him a good feather bed & bolster, a pair of sheets & a pair of Blanketts and all to be good, and a Mare near three years old and also a good new Rugg.

RICHARD BUSHROD to burey me between his Father and Mr. COOPER. and to lay one large Tomb Stone on Mr. COOPERs Grave & mine or two which he shall think most convenient: But if it be one or two, let pedestals be under that or them, also I desire that Pedestals may be by my said Son, RICHARD BUSHROD, put to THOMAS BUSH- RODS Grave Stone, And I do hereby nominate make ordain and appoint my said Son. Dom: 1707; Betweene EMANUELL CLIEVE of the Parish of SITTENEBOURNE in County of Richmond Gent. of one part and WILLIAM FANTLEROY of the Parish of FARNHAM in said County Gent. of other part; Wittnesseth that EMANUELL CLIEVE for the sume of Five shillings of lawful English money to him in hand paid by WILLIAM FANTLEROY by these presents doth bargaine and sell unto WILLIAM FANTLEROY all that tract of land containeing by Est.       THIS INDENTURE made the fifth day of October in the Sixth year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord George by the grace of God King of Great Brittain France and Ireland, I)efendr: of the faith &c., Anno Domini 1719; Between JOHN SPICER of Parish of Sittenbourn in County of Richmond, Gent., of one part and WILLIAM FANTLEROY of same Parish and County, Gent., of other part; Witnesseth that JOHN SPICER for sume of Five shillings Sterling money to him in hand paid by WILLIAM FANTLEROY, by these p:sents doth bargain and sell unto WILLIAM FANTLEROY and assignes all that plantation tract of land scituate in Parish of Sittenbourn, being the moiety or halfe part of Eleven hundred and Fifty acres of land formerly granted to JAMES WILLIAMSON by Patent Dated the 22th of May 1680; being the Northermost part of the sd: Eleven hundred and Fifty acres of land, which sd: Land hereby sold by several mean conveyances came to THOMAS JONES, Grandfather of the sd: JOHN SPICER, from whom the same descended to ELIZABETH, his only Daughter and heiress, who afterwards intermarrying with ARTHUR SPICER, Gent., by whom she had issue the sd: JOHN SPICER, their only Son and heir, the sd: ARTHUR SPICER and ELIZABETH his Wife by Deed dated the 27th day of September in the year of our Lord 1693, and duely acknowledged in Richmond County Court, conveyed the sd: Land to GEORGE TAYLOR and JOHN TAVERNER, Gentlemen, unto the use benefitt and behoof of sd: ARTHUR SPICER and ELIZABETH his Wife dureing their natural! lives and after their decease unto the right heirs of the sd: ARTHUR SPICER his heirs, after whose decease the Land fell and descended upon JOHN SPICER as heir at Law to his Grandfather; Also the sd; JOHN SPICER doth hereby bargain and sell unto WILLIAM FANTLEROY all his right and title to the Marsh Land running along
      RAPPAHANOCE RIVER from the beginning tree of this land to the mouth of the DOCTORS CREEK, likewise JOHN SPICER doth hereby bargain and sell unto WILLIAM FANTLEROY &c a parcel! of Land containing Seventy acres being part of a Patent formerly granted to WILLIAM MOSS scituate in the Parish of Sittenbourn and adjoining to the afore granted tract of land commonly called THE OLD COURT HOUSE, which was by Deed dated the Ninth day of December 1693, conveyed by JAMES ORCHARD unto sd: ARTHUR SPICER, and which Land also upon the decease of sd: ARTHUR SPICER, his Father, descended unto JOHN SPICER as his only Son and heir at Law; which three parcells of land hereby sold are bounded; Beginning at a red Oak saplin where formerly stood a marked Gum, corner to this Land and MOSS's, thence running South 52 degrees East 246 poles to a Locust Stake in the Marsh at the mouth of the DOCTORS CREEK, thence up the sd: Marsh North East 64 poles to a large white Oak, thence along a line of marked trees on the Land late of DANIELL McCARTY Esqr., and by him sold to the sd. WILLIAM FANTLEROY, North 23 Begs, East 256 poles to a red Oak saplin being the beginning tree of a parcell of land lately purchased by sd: WILLIAM FANTLEROY of MATHEW DAVIS and FRANCES his Wife, thence along the dividing line of the sd• Land and the Land of sd: JOHN SPICER hereby granted North 52 degs: West 214 poles to the head of Mr. INGOE's Creek, thence over a Swamp at the head of the sd: Creek to a Stake in the head of TUSSOKY SWAMP 46 poles, thence down the Swamp and Run thereof called INGOE's Creek according to its meanders to the beginning; Together with all houses orchards rents issues and profitts thereof; To have and to hold the severall parcels of Land unto WILLIAM FANTLEROY and assignes dureing the term of one whole year paying unto JOHN SPICER his heirs the rent of one Ear of Indian Corne at ye Feast of St. Michael the Arch Angell next ensuing if lawfully demanded, To the end that by virtue of these p:sents and of the Statute for transferring uses into possession sd: WILLIAM FANTLEROY without Attornment of Tenant, Livery of Seizin or any other Ceremony may be in the actuall possession of the p:misses and thereby be the better enabled to accept a Release of the freehold and inheritance thereof from JOHN SPICER; In Witnesse whereof the partyes first above named to these p:sent Indentures have interchangeably sett their hands and seals the day and year first above written

      TAYLOE of Parish of North Farnham in County of Richmond of one part and WILLIAM FAUNTLEROY of Parish of Sittenbourn in County of Richmond of other part; Whereas by an Order of his Maties: Justices of the Peace for County of Richmond dated the Seventh day of July Anno Dom: 1692, it was actually agreed by and between JAMES ORCHARD and the Justices on the behalfe of said County that said JAMES upon seventy acres of land to be by him conveyed to sd. County should build a PRISON and outside of a New COURT HOUSE of the dementions therein mentioned and that in consideration thereof sd. JAMES ORCHARD should have a good conveyance to him made and acknowledged of all that tract of land containing by estimation seventy acres whereon the then present COURTHOUSE stood; And Whereas JAMES ORCHARD by Deed dated the Ninth day of Docembr: Anno Dom: 1693 did grant sell and convey unto ARTHUR SPICER, Gent., the sd Tract of Land containing Seventy acres to be convey'd to sd. JAMES ORCHARD as aforesd., impowering sd, ARTHUR SPICER to demand & take a conveyance thereof to him his heirs; And Whereas JOHN SPICER, Son and Heir of said ARTHUR SPICER by Deeds of Lease and Release dated the Fifth and Sixth days of Octobr Anno Dom: 1719, did sell and convey unto WILLIAM FAUNTLEROY, party to these presents, (amongst other lands in sd. Deeds mentioned) the Tract of land comonly called THE OLD COURTHOUSE, containing Seventy acres being part of a Patent formerly granted to WILLIAM MOSS as by sd. recited Order and Deeds remaining upon the Records of County of Richmond may appeare; And Whereas there was never any conveyance made unto the County by JAMES ORCHARD of the Seventy acres of land mentioned in sd. recited Ordr: of Court the then new Court. House was to be built neither was there ever any conveyance made by sd, County either unto JAMES ORCHARD or ARTHUR SPICER of sd. Seventy acres of land whereon the then Old Courthouse then stood, that the right and property of the sd. Land still remained in said County, Wherefore for the purchase of the same from sd. County the aforesd. JOHN SPICER at a Court held for sd. County the Sixth day of June last did confess judgment for Fifteen hundred pounds of tobacco unto the Justices for use of sd. County; Whereupon the Justices by an Order made the same Sixth day of June last did appoint sd. CHARLES BARBER and JOHN TAYLOE, two of the members of sd. Court, to convey the sd. Land unto WILLIAM FAUNTLEROY, NOW THIS INDENTURE WITNESSETH that CHARLES BARBER and JOHN TAYLOE in pursuance of the aforesaid Ordr, and by ver- tue thereof and in consideration of Fifteen hundred pounds of tobo: to be paid by JOHN SPICER for the use of the County, doe by these presents bargaine sell and release unto WILLIAM FAUNTLEROY (in his actuall possession now being by vertue of a bargaine and sale to him made for one year and by force and vertue of the Statute for transferring uses into possession) his heirs all that before mentioned tract of land commonly called the OLD COURTHOUSE containing by estimation Seventy acres, Together with all houses orchards commodities & appurtenances; To have and to hold the parcell fo land unto WILLIAM FAUNTLEROY his heirs and CHARLES BARBER and JOHN TAYLOE for and on the behalfe of sd Justices and their successors doe promise WILLIAM FAUNTLEROY his heirs shall quietly have hold and possess the parcell of land hereby granted without the disturbance of sd.
