      Daniel DuVal born abt. 1755 in Essex Co., died in Henrico Co, 1795. Son of Samuel DuVal of Henrico Co. Grandson of Daniel DuVal, who landed in 1701 on the York River, Gloucester.

      Daniel DuVal was ensign of Captain John Pleasants Virginia Company. He was promoted to rank of Lieutenant and was in the Battle of Monmouth, and on Aug. 2, 1779 became Captain of a company of Sappers and Miners.

      He also served as Assistant Judge Advocate General of the Northern Department. Major and Aid-de-Camp to Generals Lafayette and Von Steuben, and as Brevet Lieutenant Colonel commanded a Regiment of Light Infantry at the Seige of Yorktown.
