Chew, Gentlemen, of the second part; John Smith of King and Queen County, Gent., and Mary, his wife, of the third part. Larkin Chew and Mary, his wife, to their daughter, the sd. Mary Smith, etc. Deed of Gift. 1042 a. in Spts. County, part of a pat. granted Harry Beverley, Gent., Decd., Dec. 24, 1723, and by the sd. Beverley devised in his last will and testament to his daughter, the sd. Mary, now the wife of the sd. Larkin Chew. Witnesses, Robt. Goodloe, Jno. Crane, George Stubblefield. Dec. 5, 1758.

April 6, 1767. Oliver Towles, Junr., Atto. at Law, of Spts. Co., and Mary, his wife, to Thomas Coleman of same Co. £14 9s. curr. 50 a. in Spts. Co., part of a tract lately purchased by sd. Towles of Thos. Waller, Execr. of Thos. Waller, Decd. No witnesses. April 6, 1767.

Decr. 18, 1770. Oliver Towles of Spts. Co., Gent., and Mary, his wife, to Harry Stubblefield of same Co. In trust. Whereas, Larkin Chew, Gent., and Mary, his wife, in right of sd. Mary, were seized, etc., of a tract of land in Spts. Co. containing 1042 a., and by indenture Septr. 25, 1758, conveyed the sd. land to Jno. Smith, Gent., and Mary, his wife, and their heirs, etc. (which sd. Mary was daughter of sd. Larkin Chew and Mary, his wife, etc.), and whereas since the sd. Indenture was made, the sd. John Smith, Gent., has died and the sd. Mary, his wife, has intermarried with the sd. Oliver Towles, and the sd. Larkin Chew being also dead, the sd. Oliver Towles and Mary, his wife, in her right and by force of the sd. Indenture, etc., in trust for the use of the sd. Mary Chew, the mother, and the sd. Mary Towles, etc., and the sd. Oliver Towles and Mary, his wife, being desirous to make a settlement to provide for the children of the sd. Mary by both marriages. This Indenture Witnesseth, for carrying sd. intention into execution, and the love and affection sd. Oliver Towles and Mary, his wife, bear to Larkin Smith, Mary and Elizabeth Smith (son and daughters of the sd. Mary Towles by her former husband, John Smith), and to the children begotten or to be begotten, between the sd. Oliver and Mary, the sd. Towles and wife deed to sd. Stubblefield in trust the reversion and inheritance expectant on death of the afsd. Mary Chew, of and in the sd. 1042 a. of land, etc. Witnesses, Geo. Stubblefield, Jno. Carthrae, Beverley Stubblefield, Jas. Minor, Vincent Vass. Decr. 20, 1770.

1774-1782 Spotsylvania County, Virginia Deed Book J; [William Armstrong Crozier];
Augt. 5, 1778. Oliver Towles of Spts. Co., Gent., and Larkin Smith of same Co., Gent. Whereas, the sd. Oliver Towles is now seized and possessed of 13 slaves, etc., in right of his wife Mary, as her Dower in slaves of her former husband, John Smith., Gent., Decd., the reversion and inheritance in which are vested in the sd. Larkin Smith, eldest son and heir of the sd. Jno. Smith, etc., sd. Oliver Towles releases to the sd. Smith all dower of the sd. Mary, in 8 of the sd. slaves; the sd. Smith releases all his right in the remaining 5 slaves, also giving the sd. Towles a negro man named Cato, etc. Witnesses, Larkin Stanard, Reubin Straughan, Thos. Towles, James Trigg, Jn.o. Davenport. Sep. 17, 1778.
