      1775-1803 British Mercantile Claims
Claims of McCall, Smellie & Company and Geo: McCall & Company [pp . 19r- 20):
Daniel Branham. £0.12.5-1/2 and £22.19.10-1/2. He died in Spotsylvania in 1794. From the peace until
his death he had been in possession of a good estate, had made provision for his children and given them
portions and was generally reputed solvent. Having been engaged as collector of rents for General Alexander Spotswood for some years before his death, it was discovered shortly before that event that he was considerably in arrears to his employer. Gen. Spotswood obtained a judgment against him for a considerable sum which absorbed the whole of his estate which he had in his possession at the time of his death and left many of his other debts unprovided for.
