      1722-1730 Essex County, Virginia Wills, Bonds & Inventories, No. 4; [John Frederick Dorman]; Page 344-45. Will of Thomas Gouldman of Essex County, being sick of body, dated, 7 0ct., 1729:
      To My cousin Thomas Waring Junior five Negroes Oliver, George, Harry, General and Will, with thirty head of cattle and twenty one sheep.
      Three Negroes Kate, Dinah and Nann with twenty head of cattle remain in the possession of my executors untill my nieces Betty and Susanna Gouldman arrive to the age of .twenty one Years or marry. to each one feather bed and furniture when they, come, of age or marry.
      To Mrs. Frances Ransomes, one Negro Hester.
      To Mary Davies servitor to Capt. Waring 1000 pounds of tobacco.
      To my cousin Molley Waring Negroe Rose and Nergo Mankey Sue's youngest child.
      To my cousin Elizabeth wife to Capt.Thomas, Waring the use of Negroe Frank, Dan and Tom during her life and after her death equally divided between my cousins Betty and Molly Waring
      My other Negroes to be equally divided between Francis and Betty Waring my cousins.
      To my cousin Elizabeth Waring, and each of her four children one mourning ring of twenty shillings value
      To William, Edwin and Elizabeth Daingerfield each one mourning ring.
      All my interest and title to any Negroes in Capt. Waring's possession that are lyable to the same dispute as those whom my brother now sues him for to my cousin Elizabeth Waring.

      THIS INDENTURE made this twenty fourth day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and forty two Between HENRY ROBINSON of the Parish of St. Anns in County of Essex Gentleman of the one part and THOMAS WARING of the same Parish and County Gentleman and THOMAS WARING JR. of the Parish of Southfarnham in County aforesaid Gentleman of other part. Whereas THOMAS GOULDMAN late of the County aforesaid deceased by his Last Will and Testament bearing date (blank) day of (blank) in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and (blank) did give and bequeath unto MOLLY WARING Daughter of the said THOMAS WARING and ELIZABETH WARING these following Slaves (to wit) Michael and Rose and the increase of the said Rose which said Rose then had one child named Diana who it is supposed was ment and intended by the Testator to be taken as part of the increase of said Rose and to be firmly given to said MOLLY by the words & the increase of the said Rose, and the said Rose having since the death of the said Testator had five other Children called Mun, Sary, Cittee, Jonny and Rachell and Whereas the said THOMAS GOULDMAN did also by his said Will give the following Slaves (to wit) Doh and Frank and their increase to be equally divided between BETTY WARING Daughter of the aforesaid THOMAS WARING and ELIZABETH WARING and the said MOLLY WARING after the decease of the said ELIZABETH which said Frank since the death of the said Testator has had three children called Lettee, Hennen and Anthony, and Whereas the said MOLLY WARING hath since intermarried with the said HENRY ROBINSON
      Now This Indenture Witnesseth that said HENRY ROBINSON for the tender love and affection he hath to his aforesaid Wife and for her better Support in lieu of or in full compensation of her Dower which she might hereafter have or claim in the Negro or Mulatto Slaves which he the said HENRY now is or at any time hereafter shall be pos- sessed of and for divers other considerations he the said HENRY ROBINSON hath bargained and made over and by these presents doth convey unto the aforesaid THOMAS WARING and THOMAS WARING JUNR. the slaves hereafter mentioned to wit Michael, Rose, Diana, Mun, Sary, Cittee, Jenny and Rachell and their increase and also that half part of the other Slaves mentioned to wit Doh, Frank, Lettee, Hennen and Anthony and their increase which he the said HENRY shall be intitled to in right of his said Wife after the sd death of the above said ELIZABETH WARING And in case the said HENRY shall happen to survive the said MOLLY and MOLLY shall not leave any Children then in trust for the sole and proper use of him his heirs forever but in case said MOLLY shall leave any child or children then from and immediately after the death of the said MOLLY to the use of the said HENRY during his life and immediately after his death for the use of such Child or Children and his her or their heirs forever.       TO ALL TO WHOM these presents shall come, we FRANCIS WARING of the County of Essex, Gent., & THOMAS TODD of the County of KING and QUEEN Gent., send Greeting. Whereas THOMAS GOLDMAN late of the County of Essex Gent., by his Last Will & Testament in writing bearing date the seventh day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and twenty seven did among other things give and bequeath unto his Cousin, MOLLEY WARING, Daughter of Majr. THOMAS WARING, a Negroe woman named Rose with her increase and Mandry Sue's youngest Child to her and her heirs forever; And after some other Legacies did give all the rest of his Negroes not disposed of by his said Will otherwise to be equally divided between the aforesaid FRANCIS WARING & BETTY WARING now Wife of the said THOMAS TODD & their heirs forever as by the said Will duely recorded in the said County Court of Essex may more fully appear; And Whereas the aforesaid Negro woman Rose had a Child named Dinah at the time of making the Will aforesaid which said Dinah hath since had a Child named Pegg, and the said MOLLY WARING having lately intermarried with HENRY ROBINSON of the County of HANOVER Gent., some doubts have arisen whether the said Dinah passed to the said MOLLEY by the Devise of Rose and her increase, she being then born or whether she passed among the residue of the undisposed of slaves to us and we being satisfied that it was the intention of the Testator to pass the said Dinah to the said MILLY, Therefore Know ye that we the said FRANCIS WARING and THOMAS TODD for performing and fulfilling the said Testators Intentions and also for Five shillings Sterling paid by the said HENRY ROBINSON before the sealing and delivery hereof and for diverse other good causes have sold unto the said HENRY ROBINSON and his heirs all our right whatsoever we have in the said Negroe woman Dinah her said Child Pegg & all her future increase; In Witness whereof we have sett our hands & seals the thirty first day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred & forty four
