      KNOW ALL MEN by these presents that I JOHN SEYMOUR of the Parish of Sittingburne in the County of Rappa:, Planter, for the great love and affection as well as for other considerations me thereunto moveing have given unto WM. BATES and ELIZABETH BATES, Son and Daughter of JOHN BATES, of the sd County their heires one Cow a peice vizt. one Cow unto the said WM. BATES his heires marked a crop and underkeel in the right eare and a cropp and a slitt in the left eare; One other to the said ELIZABETH BATES her heirs marked with a crop in each eare and a hole in each eare, and underkeeled in each eare with all their female increase to them the sd WM. & ELIZABETH their heires forevermore and Further I the sd JOHN SEYMOUR my heirs promise to warrant and defend the sd two Cowes with all their female increase (as above given) unto the sd WILLIAM and ELIZABETH BATES and their heires forevermore by these presents. In Witness I have sett my hand and seal this third day of August 1685

      - Whereas JOHN SEYMOUR as Marrying the Relict of JOHN BATES is become possessed of all & singular the Estate of the sd BATES, and for as much as RICHARD ROADS, who Marryed ELIZABETH, one of the Daughters of the sd BATES, made humble suit to and obteyned an Order of the last Court that the sd SEYMOUR and his Wife should give in a just Inventory of the sd Estate to the end the sd ROADS might be possessed with his part or share thereof, And the sd Inventory being accordingly delivered into this Court, the Court have ordered that Mr. ROBT: PLEY & BART: VAULTERS do value the sd Estate by the Inventory aforesd. And as neere as may be in kinde devide the part share or portion belonging to the sd ROADS in Right of his Wife out thereof; Only first deducting from the whole Thirteen hundred seventy two pounds of tobb & caste, so much appearing to be pd by the sd SEYMOUR out of the Estate aforesd.
