Deed of Mortgage, recorded at the request of James Russell (Merchant). Jul 26, 1744 from Bernard Johnson Rawlins of PG, planter, to James Russell of PG, Merchant, for 82 £3 shillings and 6 pence sterling, part of a tract of land called Mudds Rest, situated in Charles County, containing about 100 acres. Also all that part or parcel of land of Paul Rawlins & Catherine, his wife, whereon the sd Bernard Johnson Rawlins now dwells, situated in PG, bounded by the road that runs by Wm Read's corn field, then along a branch to the top of a hill in the greatest fork of Sturdys branch to the line of Robert Dove, & so to the extremities of the sd plantation of the sd Paul Rawlins & Catherine, his wife, westward by the land of Bigger Head & James Wilson, containing about 40 acres. Also, the following Negroes, to wit, 1 man named Jack, 1 woman named Flora, 1 man named Jenkin, & 1 girl named Jean. If, however, sd Bernard Johnson Rawlins pays sd James Russell, on Nov 10, 1745, 82 £3 shillings and 6 pence sterling, with legal interest, then this deed shall be void. Indenture made October 29, 1750; William Reed, planter, in considerationio of 6,000 pounds of tobacco paid by James Thomas, planter, has sold a tract of Paul Rawlings and Catharine Rawlings his wife whereon Barnard Johnson Rawlings formerly dwelt, containing 40 acres and binding on the road that runs by William Reed's cornfield to the line of Robert Dove and a tract called Beale [sic "Beale's Chance"], formerly belonging to Bigger Head. Signed William Reed, in the presence of John Lee, Levin Wailes and acknowledged before Henry Truman, John Hawkins, Jr., and at the same time Elizabeth Reed wife of William Reed relinquished her right of dower.

Memorandum that on the special petition of Thomas Morton preferred to the justices of Prince George's County, Maryland on the 4th Tuesday in March in the 1st year of his Lordship commission the Right Hon. the Lord Proprietary Dominion etc., his Lordship commission issued by order of the justices aforesaid out of the county aforesaid on the 7th day of April Anno Domine 1752. In these words following, Frederick Absolute Lord and Proprietary of the Province of Maryland and Avalon Lord Baron of Baltimore Vizt; to Messrs Henry Truman, Henry Boteler, Alexander Magruder (near Mill Town) and Hezekiah Magruder of PGCo gentleman, whereas Thomas Morton is seized of two tracts called "Wood's Joy" and "Cross Gutt" and preferred his petition in writing to our county court held at Upper Marlborough Town before Peter Dent, gentleman and his associates then and still justices within our county to examine evidence to prove and perpetuate the memory of the bounds of the said tracts of land. Therefore, we command you any three or two of you to examine all witnesses or persons concerned touching their knowledge of the bounds of the said tracts. Witness Peter Dent, gent, March 27, 1752. PGCo Sct June 17, 1752; John Anderson aged 76 years being sworn declares that about 50 years ago the place near where he now stands was always reckoned to be the dividing tree between Mikell Farmer and Patrick Campbell, it now being the land possessed by John Johnson and Thomas Morton and as agreed on by this deponent to be their division standing near a marsh side and near a place called Truman's Point the said division being in the land called "Wood's Joy" and and this deponent further saith not. PGCo Sct June 9, 1752; John Johnson aged 48 years being sworn declares about 8 years ago he was with Mr. Samuel Perry when had sold part of two tracts of land called "Wood's Joy" and "Cross Gutt" to Capt. Alexander Jolly and shewed him a tree standing on a point where he now stands and where is now a cedar post and it was a bounded tree of the lands that Paul Rawlings Sr., has now and believes it to be the second tree of the said land it standing on the river bank on the west side and south of a small gut about 180 yards from the mouth of Galwith Gutt and this deponent futher saith not. PGCo Sct, June 23, 1757; Philip Willocy, aged 102 years or thereabouts being sworn deposeth that about 50 years ago as he was coming from Mr. Richard Clarks along the road he saw Samuel Waring, grandfather to the present Samuel Waring, who married a daughter of Arthur Ludford, and this deponent asked Waring what he was looking for who told him he was looking for his corner tree and clapped his arm around the white oak where he now stands, it standing on the north hill side of the road that leads from the main county road to the mouth of Fradsham alias Swanson's Creek and near a fork of the road which to Truman's Point and this deponent further saith not. PGCo Sct, June 23, 1757; James Collings aged 34 years or thereabouts deposeth that as he and John George had been fishing and coming along the road, John George pointed at the tree where this deponent now stands and told him it was Samuel Waring's corner tree, it standing on the north hill side of the road that leads from the main county road to the mouth of Fradsham alias Swanson's Creek and near a fork of the road which to Truman's Point, it being a white oak. PGCo Sct, June 23, 1757; William Read, Jr., of Anne Arundel County, Maryland, aged 26 years or thereabouts deposeth about 18 years ago he and his grandfather John George was going to a fishing when they came near the white oakd where he now stands and slapped his left hand on it and said it was a bound tree of his land and at the same time extended his right hand which was towards the land called "Ludford's Gift" but at that time did not tell hm what land it related to. The aforesaid tree stands on the north hill side of the road that leads from the main county road to the mouth of Fradsham alias Swanson's Creek and near a fork of the road which to Truman's Point and this deponent futher saith not. PGCo Sct, June 23, 1757; Paul Rawlings, Sr., aged 60 years or thereabouts deposeth that he was shown by his father this tree where he now stands and told by him that it was a bounded tree of Samuel Waring's land and old John Wilson and this deponent was out in the woods killing squirrels and said John Wilson shewed him the aforesaid tree and told him it was always deemed to be a corner tree of Samuel Waring's and it being a white oak and stands on a hill side and on the south side of a branch that falls into Fradsham alias Swanson's Creek below the land formerly belonging to Thomas Padgett and the said tree has large bump growing out of the body on the north side and 5 feet from the root and he further declares it to be 46 years since he was shewed the aforesaid tree. PGCo Sct, June 23, 1757; Paul Rawlings, Sr., aged 60 years or thereabouts deposeth that about 47 years ago as he, his father and John George were going fishing and coming near to the place where he now stands they shewed him a bounded hiccory and that it was the west corner tree of Mr. Craycroft's land and that Mr. Craycroft run from a pine by the marsh to the aforesaid tree (it being now down), it stood on the east side of the main county road that leads to Doves Bridges about 100 yards from the road and in the fork between the said road and the road that leads to Fradsham alias Swanson's Creek and within 20 yards of the northwest corner of an old field formerly known by the name of Hagathy's Old Field within 5 yards of a large stone at the roof of a small white oak now marked as a memorandum and this deponent further saith not.
