      James Gates Will and Codicil,
      I, James Gates of CC, being sick and weak but of sound and disposing mind and memory;
      To my daughter Chloe my bay horse, and saddle and bridle that was her mothers.
      I give the residue of my estate to my children; James, Leonard, Anne Athey, Elizabeth Nalley, Henney Ash, Chloe Gates and Mary Gates.

      Whereas my daughter Elizabeth Nalley and her husband both died since the making of my last will and have left three orphan children without any friends to take care of them and whereas my two daughters Chloe and Mary Gates will by the terms of my will afsd be left destitute of provisions and other necessaries to support them in housekeeping and taking care of the said children, descendants of Shaderick and Elizabeth Nalley. I direct the executor to furnish out of my present stock of provisions, household and kitchen furniture so much and such part as may think necessary until Christmas next and thense forward out of my hogs, indian corn etc, for one full year.
      October 7, 1791; Witnesses Joseph Marbury, and Theodosia Wade made oath that they saw the testator sign and seal this will; and Joseph Marbury and Benedict Sanders made oath that they say testator sign and seal the Codicil.
