    • He lived in Northumberland, Virginia in the 1600's. In the Court Order Book 1678-1698, and 1699-1713 that Lucy Furnett was the daughter of Richard Cox and the wife of Edward Furned.

      Richard Cox was French as was his daughter, Lucy who was listed as an alien.

      Whereas EDWARD FURNETT on the behalf of LUCY his wife Administratrix of the Estate of RICHARD COX deceased was summoned to this Court by Scire Facias to show reasons why Execution should not Issue on a Judgment obtained against the said COX in his lifetime dated March 17, 1687 by Mr. WILLIAM ROGERS for the sum of eight hundred and thirty three pounds of tobacco and cask with Costs of Suit, on a Nihil dicit it is ordered that the former order be Confirmed, and that the said EDWARD FURNETT qualified as abovesaid forthwith pay the sum of eight hundred and ninety six pounds of tobacco and cask it being the abovesaid order and costs alias execution.

      Whereas WILLIAM HARCUM Surgeon brought his action to this Court against the Estate of RICHARD COX deceased for the sum of fifteen hundred pounds of tobacco and cask, and produced an obligation under the hand of the said COX dated February 4, 1687 for the said sum conditionally, that if the said HARCUM should do his utmost Endeavor to perfect a Cure of a distemper the said COX then labored under, And whereas the said HARCUM has made oath, that he did his utmost Endeavor on that behalf. Judgment is granted him for the said sum against EDWARD FURNETT on the behalf of his wife LUCY FURNETT Administratrix of the Estate of the said COX for the said sum out of the said Estate alias execution.

      July Session continued July 18, 1689
      Whereas the last Court it was ordered upon the petition of JOHN WEST that Capt. GEORGE COOPER Surveyor should survey and lay out a tract of land quantity ninety four acres bequeathed to the said WEST by the last will and testament of RICHARD COX deceased. The Pursuance whereof being obstructed by Mr. CHARLES HARRIS and LUCY FURNED Concealing the patent for the said land from the said WEST, It is ordered that the former order be confirmed and that the said Surveyor perform the said survey according to the directions of the said order, that the said HARRIS and FURNED appear at the Next Court and answer for their contempt of the said order, that the said LUCY forthwith deliver up the said patent to the said surveyor when he shall demand the same for his direction in performing the said survey. That the said WEST (the said LUCY refusing to survey) lay her out one hundred acres of land bequeathed to her by the said last will of RICHARD COX, and that the said Surveyor forthwith perform the said surveys, the said WEST giving timely notice to the neighborhood according to Act.

      Whereas EDWARD and LUCY FURNED brought their action to this Court against JOHN WEST. and declared that they, in the right of the said LUCY, by virtue of the last will of RICHARD COCKS, deceased, have title to the one moiety of the profits of the mill called COX's Mill, alias Mattapony Mill, now in the said WEST's possession, in his own right, as to the other moiety thereof, the said WEST being to keep the whole mill in repair at his own charge, according to the tenor of the Will, and prayed that the said WEST might come to account and pay them their due in respect to their said moiety, and whereas the account of the whole profits of the said mill from November the 26th 1689 to this day was here in Court produced, amounting to nine thousand three hundred fifty three and a half pounds of tobacco, Judgment is granted the said EDWARD and LUCY FURNED against the said WEST for the sum of four thousand six hundred seventy six and three fourths pounds of tobacco (being the full moiety of the said account) with costs of Suit alias execution.

It is ordered that THOMAS BARNES possessed of the Servant as forfeited by Law and ye other named EDWARD PALMER it is ordered Judgment be granted THOMAS BARNES against RICHARD COX for his Information according to Law unlesse the next Court RICHARD COX produces Mr. JOHN GRUBBS or the Sheriffe of WESTMORELAND County his Oath that EDWARD PALMER was in the time limitted by Law entered in the Lyst of Tythables for that County and the other FITZALLEN COMPTON.
