    • === Marylanders to Carolina-Henry C. Peden, Jr.

      Gaither, was born circa 1753 in Frederick County, Maryland, and
      served as an Ensign in the Revolutionary War. By May 12, 1784, he
      had settled in Rowan County, North Carolina, when he purchased a
      tract on Little Dutchman's Creek. He married Amelia Martin around
      1792 and they had 10 children: Alfred Gaither, Martin Gaither,
      Sarah Foster, Elvira Reid, Forrest Gaither, Lemira Foster, Milly
      Maria Pierson, Burgess Gaither, Eleanora MacRee, and Charles
      Cotesworth Pinkney Gaither. Burgess became a prominent figure in
      post-Revolutionary politics in western North Carolina and
      represented Iredell County in the State Legislature in 1792 and
      from 1795 to 1801. He died in 1820 (Ref: HWN I-112, 113).

Signed - Nicholas Gaither, Burgess Gaither. Wit - AEns Campbell*, Joseph Wilson*. Nelly, the wife of the sd Nicholas, relinquished her right of dower to the within mentioned land. Recorded Mar 17, 1780.
