      GAITHER, HENRY. Henry Gaither, son of Edward Gaither and Sarah
      Howard, was born on February 23, 1752 in Anne Arundel County,
      Maryland. "Certainly before the Revolution he settled in the
      Upper District of Frederick which in 1776 was organized into
      Washington County. His wife was Margaret Stewart, of South
      Carolina, a sister of Gen. David Stewart of Georgia. According to
      family tradition, she came to Maryland to visit the Fitzhughs. A
      romance ensued and there was an elopement." Their children were:
      Susan Gaither, Stewart Gaither, Edward Gaither, Sarah Howard
      Gaither, Rebecca Gaither, Catherine Gaither, Louisa Gaither,
      Martha Gaither Huyett, Matilda Gaither, Henry Gaither, Henrietta
      Gaither, and Juliana Gaither. Henry Gaither died intestate in
      1812 and his widow died on June 30, 1845, in Hagerstown, Maryland
      (Ref: HWN I-143, 144).
