      GAITHER, BAZIL. Bazil Gaither, son of Benjamin Gaither and Rachel
      Jacob, was born in 1771 in Maryland and migrated to Rowan County,
      North Carolina with his parents. He married Augerena Gatton,
      daughter of Azariah Gatton, of Prince George's County, Maryland,
      who received an early land grant of 400 acres in North Carolina
      (which later was possessed by his daughter, Augerena Gaither).
      The children of Bazil Gaither and Augerena Gatton were: Elizabeth
      Gaither (married Nelson Forcum); Anne Gaither (married a Madden);
      Martha Gaither (married 1st a Pryor and 2nd a Mason); Brice
      Gaither (1800-1828, married Elizabeth Horn); Vincent Gaither
      (1802-1887, married Mary Stroud); Azariah Gaither (1804-1885,
      married Elizabeth Horn, his brother's widow); Ivory Gaither (born
      1811 and married Elizabeth----); and, James Franklin Gaither
      (1816-1893, married Amelia----). Bazil Gaither died testate in
      Iredell County, North Carolina on June 30, 1844. Most of his
      children settled in Tennessee (Ref: HWN I-81 to 87).
