      Dec 22, 1748 from Benjamin Tasker of Annapolis, Esq, Agent and Receiver General for the Proprietary of Maryland, with the approval of Samuel Ogle, Governor of Maryland, to George Maxwell, merchant in CC, the lease of a parcel of land in CC in his Lordship's Manner of Calverton, between the lands of Capt Charles Sommerset Smith, John Anderson, & Avis Cave on swansons Cr. Said land was formerly held by Cornelius Norton, deceased, for about 102 acres, as per certificate of lease formerly held by sd Cornelius Norton, deceased, may more fully appear. This lease is for the natural life of George Maxwell and during the natural life of James Wardrop, merchant in Prince Georges County, and for the natural life of Lettice Wardrop, wife to the said James Wardrop. The yearly rent is 10 shillings sterling money of GB. Maxwell may assign the land [with the permission] of the

Between Robert Bull late of the Town of Leith near the City of Edinburgh in North Britain but now in Prince Georges County in the Province of Maryland Heir at law of James Wardrop late of the County & Province aforesaid Merchant Deceas'd being the only Son of his Only Sister of the one Part & Adam Thomson of Prince Georges County in the Said Province Physician of the other Part Whereas the Said James Wardrop Was in his life Time Seized in fee of aud in all that Tract or parcell of Land situate lying and adjoining to The Town of Upper Marlboro in Prince Georges County aforesaid Bounded as followeth (For land description see deed) Containing & Laid out for Twenty Acres Together with the Dwelling House Kitchens Smoke House Mill House Hen House Rabbit House Wash House Counting House & all other Houses Gardens & Yards therein Also All the Parcell of land being part of a Tract of land Called the Horse Race Containing Ninety Nine Acres heretofore Convey'd by John Levet unto the Said James unto the Said Adam Thomason his Heirs and Assigns forever to the only proper use And Behoof of the Said Adam Thomason his Heirs and Assigns and to no other use intent or purpose whatsoever and the Gentleman of the other part Witnesseth that the said Lettice Thomson for and in Consideration of the Sum of three hundred and forty two pounds Seventeen Shillings and two pence Sterling Money to her now in hand paid by the said John Lee the receipt whereof the said lettice Thomson doth hereby Acknowledge and therefrom acquit and discharge the said John Lee his heirs Executors and Administrators and every of them by these presents Hath given granted bargained sold aliened released enfeoffed and Confirmed and by these presents Doth give grant bargain sell alien release enfeoffe and confirm unto him the said John Lee his heirs and Assigns All that undivided Moiety or half part of a tract or parcell of Land called The Addition lying and being in Frederick County in the province of shall well & truly pat or cause to be paid to him the said John Lee his heirs Executors Administrators or Assigns the aforesaid Sum of three hundred and forty two pounds seventeen Shillings and two pence Sterling at or upon the first day of June next Ensuing the date hereof with lawfull Interest for the Same then this Indenture and every Clause therein to be void and of no Effect otherwise to be & remain in full force and Virtue And the said Lettice Thompson for herself her heirs Executors and Administrators doth hereby Covenant Grant Promise and Agree to and with the said John lee his heirs Executors Administrators and Assigns in manner and form following that is to say That she the said Lettice Thomson her heirs Executors And Administrators shall and will well and truly pay or cause to be paid to him the said John lee his heirs Executors Administrators or Assigns the aforesaid Sum of three hundred and forty two pounds Seventeen Shillings and two pence Sterling at or upon the said first day of June next ensuing the date hereof with lawfull Interest for the same and that she the said Lettice Thomson her heirs Executors and Administrators the said undivided moiety of the tract or Parcell of Land aforesaid and every part and parcell thereof and premisses with the Appurtenances to him the said John lee his heirs and Assigns against her the said Lettice Thomson her heirs and Assigns and all persons claiming by from or under her or them shall and will for ever hereafter warrant and defend by these presents And further the said Lettice Thomson for herself her heirs Executors and Administrators doth hereby Covenant Grant promise and Agree to and with the said John lee his heirs Executors and Administrators that if default be made in the payment of the said sum of three hundred and forty two pounds seventeen Shillings and two pence Sterling with legal Interest thereon or any part or parcell thereof by the said Lettice Thomson her heirs Executors or Administrators according to the Condition or proviso and Covenant for payment afs.d that then he the said John Lee his heirs Executors or Administrators shall and may if he or they see fit at any time after the said first day of June next Ensuing the date hereof and after giving three weeks Notice thereof in the Maryland Gazette enter into the said undivided moiety of the tract or parcell of Land aforesaid and set up and expose the same and Premisses with the Appurtenances to the best and highest bidder in Sterling money and the said undivided moiety of the said tract or parcell of Land and Premisses with the Appurtenances and every part and parcell thereof so set up and expose to sale effectually to convey and make over (and the said Lettice Thomson doth hereby authorize constitute and impower the said John Lee his heirs Executors Administrators and Assigns for her and in her Name to Release convey and make over the said undivided moiety of the said tract or parcell of Land and every part and parcell thereof and Premisses with the Appurtenances to the respective purchaser or purchasers thereof and the Monies arising from such sale to demand recover and receive of and from the respective purchaser or purchasers as aforesaid and Apply the said monies arising from such Sale to the Payment of the necessary Charges and expences of Such Sale and to the payment and discharge of the aforesaid sum of three hundred and forty two pounds seventeen Shillings and two pence sterling money and legal Interest thereon and the Charges of drawing and recording this Deed And that she the said Lettice Thomson her heirs Executors Administrators and Assigns shall and will upon request of such purchaser or purchasers as aforesaid make execute suffer and give to such purchaser or purchasers their heirs and Assigns good firm and Sufficient release or other effectual writing as Shall be required of and for the said undivided moiety of the tract or parcell of Land aforesaid
      so bought at Vendue by such purchaser or purchasers as aforesaid and that in Case the monies arising by such Sale as aforesaid Shall not be sufficient for the Several payments aforesaid that then she the said Lettice Tomson her heirs Executors or Administrators shall and will pay to him the said John Lee his heirs Executors Administrators or Assigns
      such part thereof as shall be deficient and unpaid or satisfied And the said john Lee for himself his heirs Executors and Administrators doth hereby Covenant Promise Grant and Agree to and with the said Lettice Thomson her heirs Execrators and Administrators that in case there shall be any surplus after the Application of the monies arising by such sale as aforesaid to the several payments aforesaid that then he the said John Lee his heirs Executors Administrators or Assigns shall and will pay Such surplus to the said Lettice Thomson her heirs Executors Administrators or Assigns with lawfull Interest thereon In Witness whereof the said Lettice Thomson hath hereunto set her hand and Affixed her Seal the day and Year first above written

      On the fourteenth day of April seventeen hundred and sixty Eight Came the within named Lettice Thomson before me the Subscriber one of his Lordships Justices of the provincial Court and Acknowledged the within Instrument of writing to be her Act and Deed and the undivided moiety of the tract or parcel of Land therein mentioned to be the Right and Estate of the within named John Lee his heirs and Assigns forever according to the true intent and Meaning of the same writing and the Act of Assembly in such Case made and provided Before me J Hepburn

      This Indenture made the eighteenth Day of December in the Year of
      our Lord one thousand seven hundred & seventy one Between Corbin Lee of Baltimore
      County of the one Part & Lettice Thomson of Prince Georges County Widow of the other Part
      Whereas Philip Lee the Father of the said Corbin Lee by his last Will & Testament duly executed
      proved & recorded among other Things did give & bequeath unto the said Corbin Lee (viz) "Item
      I give to my son Corbin Lee Two hundred Acres of Land Part of the Land called Rehoboth
      given by my honoured Father to him & his Heirs for ever" as by the said Will may more at large
      appear Now This Indenture Witnesseth that the said Corbin Lee for & in Consideration
      of the Love & Affection which he hath for the said Lettice Thomson his sister & also in
      Consideration of the Sum of ten shillings Sterling to him paid the Receipt of which is
      hereby acknowledged Hath given granted bargained & sold & by these Presents Doth give
      grant bargain & sell unto her the said Lettice Thomson All that the aforesaid undivided
      two hundred Acres of Land Part of the said Tract called Rehoboth mentioned & described in
      the said recited Will together with all Buildings Improvements Gardens Orchards Ways
      Waters Water Courses Easements Profits Commodities & Advantages whatsoever to the said Premises
      with the Appurtenances belonging or in any wise appertaining & the Reversion
      & Reversions Remainder & Remainders Rents Issues & Profits thereof & every Part & Parcel
      thereof & all the Estate Right Title Interest Use Trust Property Claim & Demand whatsoever
      of him the said Corbin Lee of into or out of the said Premises with the Appurtenances
      & every Part thereof To have and to hold the said undivided Two hundred
      Acres of Land & Premises with the Appurtenances unto her the said Lettice Thomson her
      Heirs & Assigns to the only proper Use & Behoof of the said Lettice Thom son her Heirs
      & Assigns for ever & to or for no other Use Intent or Purpose whatsoever In Witness
      whereof the said Corbin Lee hath hereunto set his Hand & seal the Day & Year

      On the Eighteenth Day of Decem.r one thousand seven hundred & seventy one came
      Corbin Lee Party to the within Indenture & acknowledged the same as his Act & Deed & the Land
      & Premises therein mentioned to be the Right & Estate of the said Lettice Thomson her Heirs
      & Assigns according to the true Intent & Meaning of the within Deed And at the same
      Time came Eleanor Wife of the said Corbin Lee & being by us privately examined apart
      from & out of the Hearing of her said Husband did release all her right & Title of Dower of
      & in the said Land unto the said Lettice Thompson & did declare she made the same release
      of her own free Will & Consent without being induced thereto by any Threats of her said Husband
      or for Fear of his Displeasure Jon.a Plowman

      Baltimore County fs.t I hereby certify that Jonathan Plowman John Beale Howard & James
      Gittings Gentlemen before whom the above acknowledgements were taken & who have
      thereto subscribed their Names were at the Day of the Date thereof & still are three of his
      Lordships the Right Honourable the Lord Proprietary his Justices of the Peace for the
      County aforesaid & to all Certificates given by them as such due Faith & Credit is &
      ought to be given as well in Courts of Justice as thereout
