      Will of Anne Sturman proved 21 th Aug. 1654
      By a Will & Testam. my late husband Thomas Sturman deceased made me sole and whole Executrix & there being no Court since ye death of my husband to make a Probate of his said Will wch was my desire to doe And now finding my selfe weak in body but in perfect memory make my last Will & Testamt.
      First I bequeath my soul to Almighty God ye maker of manhoode & my body to dust from whence I came
      Secondly I give my sone John Two Cowes called old Browne and Smot & one Bull & all ye hoggs that be at Maryland except one Sow that I give my Grandchilde Thomas Youlle & likewise to my sone John one brass kettle a warming pan a Carpett & his fathers great Coat & also to my sone John Sturman half ye right of Land that is due at Maryland & ye other half of ye Said Right of Land to my sone Richard Sturman And further I give to my Grandchilde John Sturman ye yearling that was Smotty
      Thirdly I bequeath to Anne Youle ye Cow that is called long Leggs & a red heifer that is two years olde & my hatt my bodies & my red coate my best stockings & my new pare of shooes
      Fourthly I give to my Daughter Elizabeth Hardich a Cow called Little & a black heifer & my best petticoate & two wastecoates belonging to it & as for my Linnen that is wearing Linnen
      I give & behod my daughter Anne Youle & Elizabeth Hardich excepting a white petticoate & white Wastcoate wch 1 give to my grandchilde Anne Youle & further I give to her a yearling wch valued by Long Leggs.
      I give to my grandchilde Winnifried a yearling called Anne Cale.
      I give to my grandchilde Little Betty Hardich one yearling great Brownings calfe
      Lastly I bequeath to my sone Richard Sturman one Cow called Starr two yearlings one valued by Little Browning & another red yearling & all my hoggs & their increase that are at Nominy & fower Calves that were weaned this yeare & further I give him two Bills one from John 'Wood & ye other from olde goodman Tasker more
      I give him my servant man for his full time to serve & ye Croppe of Tobco & Corne upon ye ground that is now growing more
      I give my sone Richard all ye goods that is in ye house mouvables and unmouvables except one bed bolster & pillow that he now lyes upon wch I give to my sone John & for ye debt that I owe I leave ye Tobco that is due for ye Land my husband solde in Maryland to pay ye said debt & likewise I leave one hhead of Tobco that was recovered in Maryland Court towards paying of those debts One thousand pounds of Tobco that will be overplus of paying my debts
      I give to my daughter Rosamund wch lives in England & that Tobco is left in my sone Richards hands to pay her & what Tobco may be over & above according as I have disposed of I leave to my sone Richard
      Further I give towards ye charges of my buriall In witness whereof I have sett my hand ye 22th day of June Ano Dm 1654. Noate that (of Tobco & Corne) was interlined before this will was witnessed.

BURBAGEs, running his breadth up the Creeke & a mile into the woods, wch: land being a part of the Three thousand acres I bought of Mr. MERIWETHER & doe warrant ye sd. Land from the sd. MERRIWETHER or his assignes and have sold & delivered the sd. Five hundred acres of land from mee my heires or assignes to the sd. CAMBLE his heires or assignes for ever; together with all the right & priviledges contained in the sd Pattent; As Wittness my hand & seale this 30th day of December 1657 for the itch: land I have received satisfacon and oblige me to acknowledge it in Court

      p.31. Agreement. 24 Oct 1653. Fran: Sherwood with Tho Hawkins. That Sherwood set up for Mr Hawkins, at the head of Nominy River, 150 "pannell of posts and railes five railes to the pannell sufficiently performed by the said Sherwood to keepe out hoggs and Cattle". Also binds himself to keep Wm Thomas harmless from any damage suit that may arise. The posts "to be LLocusof Chesnutt". The work to be finished the last of March. Signed The marke of Fran: Sherwood

"John Redman aged 32 yeares of thereabouts being sworne and examined saith That he this Depon't being at Mr Brodhursts house this last Spring in an evening see Robert Sharpe John Wood and Francis Sherwood there The said Wood and Sherwood signed a Bill unto Mr Brodhurst for Tob'co then the said Mr Brodhurst examined Robert Sharpe and John Wood concerning Hugh Jones his Will and tooke it in writing an tolde them they must be sworne to it But this Depon't did not see them sweare to it nor did he see Mr Speke there at that time And further saith not Joh Redman his marke 1 Octo 1655 Jurat in Cur"

      p.49. Patent. 12th - 1653. Ricd Bennett Esqr Gov etc to John Wood, 1200 acres in Northumberland Co. 250 acres thereof on E side Nominy River opposite the land of Mr Lewis Burwell, the land of Gabriel Odger, W on a branch of Nominy River and on S side of Vasahisan path. And 600 acres part thereof on a branch of Nominy River opposite Mr John Rosier's land, etc. The residue 350 acres adj land of Gabriel Odyer, etc. A part of the entry is torn away here. It appears to be that 250 acres was granted to Tho Phillips 16 Sept 1651 and by him assigned to Tho Hawkins, and by Hawkins assigned to Francis Sherwood and Jno Wood, which said Sherwood assigned his right to Jno Wood. And that 600 acres thereof being to John Wood by patent dated 1 Aug 1653. And 350 acres for transporting 7 persons.

The name of one witness destroyed, the other Alex Baynham. That part of margin which ordinarily shows by whom the land was originally patented and the folio recorded is torn away.

      p.69. Patent. 19 Oct 1653. Richard Bennett Esqr, etc. grants Mr Jno Rosier, Clerk, 700 acres in Northumberland Co on N.W. side Nominy River. Adjs a small branch dividing the land from that surveyed for Lewis Burwell deceased, N by W parellel to Nominy River bounding on a tract surveyed for Tho Youll, S by W on Nominy river. This land due Mr Rosier viz: 500 acres part thereof granted to Major Lewis Burwell 17 Nov 1650, and by Burwell assigned to Tho Youll and by him assigned to Rosier. The 200 residue on the North of the 500 acres, due for the transportation of 4 persons into the colony.
