      Mary Clocker mother to Thomas Courtney with her husband Daniell Clocker came this day being the Seventh of January 1660, and desired to have entred among the Records that shee does freely give vnto her said Sonn liberty to doe for himselfe, being now of the age of Nynteene yeares and doth release what power shee hath over him as his Guardian to the end hee may doe for himselfe here after.

      James Courtney, the immigrant, died 1642 in St Mary's County. He married Mary Lawne who was transported as a servant to Margaret Brent. After the death of James Courtney, Mary married second, Daniel Clocker (the immigrant, who was transported by Capt. Thomas Cornwallis).

      This day came James Courtney Planter and made Oath that he is not precontracted to any other wouman then Mary Lawne, and that there is no Impediment of Consanguinity or apprentiship or precontract, or any other Lawfull Impediment what soever on his part, nor to his knowledge on the part of the Said Mary Lawne why he Should not be married to the Said Mary, And he bindeth himself and assignes in five thousand wt Tob to the Lord Proprietary that the Oath now made is rightfull and true whereupon a Certificate was granted.
