The Late Mrs. Claggett
Mrs. Ann Martin Claggett, who died at "Oakland" her home near Petersville, this county, yesterday morning, was in the eighty-fourth year of her age. Her father was Honore Martin, a native of France and her mother was Sarah Claggett. When Lafayette was visiting America, Honore Martin gave him a reception at his home in Rockville and Mrs Claggett who was then a little child could remember sitting on his knee and talking to him in French. Mrs. Claggett's husband was the late Capt. Samuel Claggett of Washington County. Mrs. Claggett's older sister married Dr. Thomas John Claggett the older son of Bishop Claggett, and the decendants of that sister are her only relations. Mrs. Claggett was a pious, excellent woman and having a considerable estate she used here income largely for the pleasure of others.
