      Gerrard BANKS Jr was born about 1705 in Stafford Co, VA. He died about 1780 in Amherst Co, VA. BIRTH: Given as circa 1717 in LDS records. D

      MARRIAGE: Given as Before 1736 in LDS records.
      The following appeared in "Marriage Bonds of Amherst Co, VA" page 15: Camp, Samuel, and Mary Banks, spinster, November 12, 1776,
      David Shepherd, surety,
      Consent of her father, Gerrard Banks. and on page 39: Higginbotham, John, and Rachel Banks, July 9, 1767, William Horsley, surety, Consent of her father, Gerrard Banks.

      WILL: Written: March 20, 1776, probated: February 7, 1780, Book 1, Page (315) or 515 -- Leaves all the estate to his wife for her life or widowhood, "at her decease land I live on, on south side of Bly's Path to the main branch that empties into Buffalo river just above Cabell's Mill to go to Son William for life and at his decease to go to son Reuben;
      to daughters Mary and Sarah the Banks slaves;
      To Sons: Linn, and Adam 5 shillings each; to Elizabeth Hume and Rachel Higginbotham (both my daughters) 5 shillings each;
      grandson, Gerard to have one horse, saddle & bridle to the value of 15 pounds to be furnished him by sons William and Reuben out of what I give them and I desire my grandson may have a good schooling to be paid for by my sons William and Reuben. (The wills of Amherst County, VA 1761-1865) The Codicil, dated Dec 22, 1779, revokes "part of my will giving negro Sam to sons William and Thomas and leaves him as part of the Widows property which is at her death or remarriage to be divided between sons William, Thomas and Reuben and Daughters Mary and Sarah Banks. Witnesses: David Shepherd, Gabl. Penn, Geo. Penn, Lawrence Campbell, Eliz. Howell. Ux; son, William.

      OTHER: The name was also spelled Gerrard and Girard. He was married to Anne STANTON before 1730.
      Anne STANTON was born about 1715 in Stafford Co, VA. She died about 1791 in KY. BIRTH: As given in LDS records.
      DEATH: Estate was settled on 1 Dec 1791 (LDS records).

      Children were:

      i. William BANKS. OTHER: William was listed in the will of his father Gerard Banks (see his note file). And was appointed an executor of his fathers will.

      The security/witness for their marriage was Tomas Landrum.
      ii. Reuben BANKS.
      MARRIAGE: Wedding date has also been given as Nov 4, 1783, not yet been verified by me. The security/witnesses for their marriage was Charles Taliaferro Sr. and Jr., her father was John Hill.

      MILITARY: Reuben was listed in the book "Amherst County, Virginia, in the Revolution" as a Corporal, serving in Capt William Tucker's Company of Militia which joined the Army the 14th day of January 1781 - discharged the 26th day of March following. Seventy-two days.

      OTHER: Reuben was named in his father Gerrard Banks will (see his note file). And was named an executor of his fathers will. Amherst records, D.B.F., page 26: In 1758 John Wiatt sold to Reuben Banks 50 acres on the north branches of Buffalo River and on the side of Turkey Mountain, it being part of a larger tract of land belonging to the said Major John Wiatt. This land adjoined Joshua Hudson and Linn Banks. (This land is evidently the home place which Gerrard had left to his widow).

      OTHER: Sarah was listed in her father Gerard Banks will (see his note file). She was also known as "SARY".
      vi. Elizabeth BANKS.
      OTHER: Elizabeth was listed in her father Gerard Banks will (see his note file). She was married to a HUME at the time her father wrote his will, and their security/witness for marriage was Joshua Hudson and J. Reid.
      vii. Rachel BANKS.
      OTHER: Rachel was listed in her father Gerard Banks will (see his note file). Their security/witnesses for marriage were William Horsley, Edmund Wilcox, Moses Higginbotham, Ambrose Campbell and Aaron Campbell.
      66 viii. Linn "Sam" BANKS.
      ix. Adam BANKS was born in 1742 in Culpeper Co, VA. He died on 19 Aug 1816 in Madison Co, VA.

      Part of Will of Gerard Banks, Feb. 7, 1780; Amherst County, VA Will book 1, (1761-1780) Reel 17, p. 515-517. Item 1, land unto my beloved wife during her life or widowhood all my estate & at her decease I give to my son William Banks all that part of tract of land whereon I now live that lies on S. side of Bly path to the main branch that empties into Buffalo just above Cabell Mill and a Negro man named Sam during his life and at his decease I give the said land unto my son Reuben Banks to him and his heirs forever, and the said Negro Sam to my son Thomas Banks to him & his heirs forever.

      Item I give unto my son Reuben Banks, one Negro man named Ben to him & his heirs forever. Item I give unto my daughter Mary Banks a boy called Scott and a Negro woman named Diane to her & her heirs forever. Item I give unto my daughter Sarah Banks, one Negro girl named Grace during her life an in case she should die without ______I then give the said Negro Grace to my son Reuben Banks to him & his heirs forever.

      Item I give unto my son Linn Banks & Adam Banks each five shillings & unto Elizabeth Hume & Rachel Higginbotham, (both daughters) five shillings each.

      Item the land whereon I now live at the decease of my beloved wife or her second marriage I give to my son Reuben Banks to him & his heirs forever.

      Item I give to my grandson Gerrard Banks one horse, saddle & bridle of the value of fifteen pounds to be furnished by my son William & Reuben Banks out of what I give them, and good schooling I desire my said grandson may have & paid for by my sons William & Reuben Banks also.

      Item at the decease of my beloved wife or second marriage all my whole & sole estate not otherwise disposed after paying all my just debts I give to be equally dived between my sons William, Thomas, Reuben Banks and my daughters Mary & Sarah Banks to them & their heirs forever and lastly do I appoint for Executors to this my last will and testament my two sons William & Reuben Banks.

      The order for Henry ffield & Wm Russell Gent & Gerhard Banks to view and lay of ye road from the Ridge below Cumins.s to the North river near the pitch of the fork being returned by ye sd Henry ffields and Gerhard Banks in these words In pursuance of this order we the subscribers have viewed and mark.d out the road and find it to be a good ridge to Thomas Hords quarter on ye north river and we find a good place for a ferry on ye sd River but the horse ford wants to be cleared of Stones before it can be called good Its ordered that the said road be cleared according to return and that the tithables belonging to ye lower end of ye fork below the County road including the tithables of ye sd Henry ffield on his Mannor plantation do work on ye sd road under ye sd Henry ffield who hereby is appointed Overseer of ye sd road And its further ordered that he with the said tithables clear ye same some time in ye month of October next according to Law and that the said tithables be exempted from all other roads.
