      STAFFORD COUNTY VA DEED & WILL BOOK 1699 - 1709; THE ANTIENT PRESS pp 207-208
      MARGARET LADY CULPEPER, THOMAS LORD FAIRFAX and CATHERINE his wife proprietors of the Northern Neck of Virginia .. Whereas THOMAS BAXTER son of THOMAS BAXTER deced of Stafford County did on the fourteenth of Octr. 1695 set forth to our office that as heir to his Father he held 2000 acres of land by virtue of an old pattent lying on Ocquaquon in said county Whereupon he obtained a warrant under the hand of Capt. GEORGE BRENT one of our Agents to survey the said Pattent according to its bound provided it did not entrench upon Elder pattents as by the said warranty more fully appear and it further appearing that by the procurement of WALTER GRIFFIN who married the Mother of the said Thomas then in his minority a survey accordingly was made the 16th October following by THEODRICK BLAND Surveyor including the quantity of nineteen hundred and seven acres without entrenching upon Elder pattents as the said Surveyor reports and THOMAS BAXTER now again sets forth that he is still in the possession of the said 1907 acres and moving to have a deed for the same according to the said survey Know ye that therefore in consideration of the arrearges of rent and composition to us paid and the annual rent herein reserved we have given & granted and do by way of these presents give and grant unto Thomas Baxter all that parcel of land lying on the upper side of Ocququan in the county Stafford containing 1907 acres bounded .. beginning at the mouth of a creek which divides this land from the Dogs Island Pattent and running thence up the creek according to the meanders thereof crossing a branch of the same East one degree and quarter North 470 poles to a maple in the branch upon Bush Roads line thence along Bushroads line North 33 degrees and one half West 536 poles io a white oak being the uppermost corner tree in the woods of Bushroads land thence NW 214 poles to a white oak on a hill between Lhe fork of a branch that runs to Pohick thence W=1 degree one half N=156 poles to a hickory and a white oak at the head of a valley that runs down towards Ocquaquan thence SW 442 poles to a chestnut oak upon Wilkesses Creek or Jonathans Run thence down the said Wilkesses or Jonathans Nun and Ocquaquan River according to the meanders of there to the first mentioned be-

I THOMAS BAXTER of Stafford County .. this 5th day February 1703/4 Now Know ye that I Thomas Baxter for sum 4000 pounds of Tobacco and cask to me paid in hand by WILLIAM HOLT of Stafford County .. the land bounded thus lying in the fork of Baxter Creek beginning in the fork running East up to a markt Maple to Bushroad Line running up Sushroads line North to the mill Run running down the run to the beginning in the 'fork containing 300 acres of land more or less ..

      Stafford Set. At a court held 9th February 1703/4. Thomas Baxter in proper person came into open court and acknowledged above deed to William Holt ordered said deed be recorded.
      Collo. George Mason by virtue of a Letter of Attorney from Mary Baxter did acknowledge her right of dower to above deed ordered her sd relinquishment of dower to be recorded.

I GEORGE MASON Gentl. have for the sum Ten pounds Sterling to me in hand paid or secured to be paid .. have sold WILLIAM HOLT of county aforesaid one water grist mill house with one acre of land thereunto belonging being on the run that divides THOS. BAXTERS Plantation and Wm. Holts land .. 9th day March 1708.
