      Indenture made January 17, 1759; Thomas Clark, Gentleman in consideration of the love and affection which he hath and beareth unto Alice Clark widow of Thomas Clark, Jr. and Margaret Lee Clark his grandchild as also for the better maintenance and also for diverse other good causes and considerations him thereunto moving has given by these presents a tract called "Backland" containing 300 acres for the term of her natural life and after her decease to the use of Margaret Lee black and for default of such issue to the said Thomas Clark. Signed Thomas Clark in the presence of John Hepburn, Richard Smith and acknowledged before John Hepburn
