      - Rappahannock County Court 4th of September 1685
      - Whereas PHILLIP SHERWOOD late of this County dyed seized in fee of a certain tract of land lying and being on the North side of Rappa: River in the freshes thereof which sd land doth now lawfully come vest in MARY, MARTHA, SARAH and ANN, the foure Daughters & coheirs of the sd PHILLIP SHERWOOD; And Whereas THOMAS MARSHALL who marryed SARAH, one of the coheirs, did in right of his Wife bring his action in this Court against FRANCIS JAMES, who marryed MARY, the Eldest of the sd Daughters, and shows that the sd JAMES did contrary to Law and without the mutual consent of the sd Sisters & coheirs make devision of the land aforesd., But it being made appeare that MARY & MARTHA, the two Eldest Daughters of the sd PHILLIP SHERWOOD were of full age & did consent to the division aforesd. the Court seriously weighing the matter have ordered the division of the sd land already made do continue good & firme until! such time as the Youngest Daughter of the sd SHERWOOD shall move for a new division thereof

      - Ordered that ELIZABETH, SARAH, DAVID and MARY ROSERs, Orphans of DAVID ROSER deced. do abide with FRANCIS JAMES and MARY his Wife and that the said FRANCIS JAMES do take into his Custody and possession of all & singular the Estate belonging unto the said Children & be accountable therefore when lawfully required

      THIS INDENTURE made the 4th day of March in the year of our Lord 1695 and in the sixth year of the reign of our Sovereign Lord William King of England, Scotland France and Ireland. Now Know ye that I FRANCIS JAMES of Richmond County, Planter, and MARY my Wife, for One thousand pounds of tobacco in hand paid by EDWARD LAMBY of the County of WESTMORELAND, Carpenter, have sold unto the said
      LAMBY his heirs or assigns forever one parcell of land by estimation Fifty acres be it more or less being part of a Tract of Land belonging to the abovesaid FRANCIS and MARY JAMES, situate and being in the County of WESTMORELAND and Parish of WASHINGTON, the said Tract of Land being butted and bounded as followeth, Beginning at a corner tree of WILLIAM JETTs which standeth upon a main run that maketh down to Mr BLAGGs Dam, thence extending North Northwest to a marked Chesnut, thence extending South West to the abovesaid Run, thence bounding upon said Run and running up the same unto the abovesaid corner tree of WILLIAM JETTs, the aforesaid Run maketh a head above BARROWS BRIDGE which doth fully compleat the abovesaid parcell of Land, together with all its rights belonging to him the said EDWARD LAMBY for ever and the said FRANCIS JAMES & MARY his Wife doth warrant for themselves their heirs and defend the said Land from the claims of any persons whatsoever and in confirmation hereof, we have sett our hands & seals
