      WILL OF ROBERT RANKINS
      In the name of God Amen. I, Robert Rankins of Hanover Parish in King George County being sick and weak in body but of perfect soundness of memory do make and constitute this my Last Will and Testament as followeth.

      Imprimis: I do bequeath my soul to God who gave it and my body to the earth to receive Christian burial in sure and certain hopes of a joyful resurrection.

      Item: I do give unto my son William Rankins, and my son John Rankins and my son James Rankins all my land to be equally divided between them, my son William to have his first choice.
      Item: I do give unto my daughter Mary Green one shilling sterling.
      Item: I do give and bequeath unto my dearly beloved wife Elizabeth Rankins all my whole personal estate.
      Item (4): To each of his following four sons he leaves the sum of one shilling sterling, viz: Moses, George, Benjamin and Hopkins Rankins.
      Item: I do constitute and appoint my dearly beloved wife Elizabeth Rankins and my son William Rankins Executrix and Executor of this my last Will and Testament.

      At a court held for King George County on Friday the 4th day of March, 1747, the Last Will and Testament of Robert Rankins, deceased, was presented into court by Thomas Turner, Gent. and the same was proved by oath of Charles Holdsworth and admitted to record, where upon the Executors therein named having resigned their executorship to the said Thomas Turner whereupon administration with the will annexed is granted unto the said Thomas Turner he having with Harry Turner entered into Bond in the sum of One Hundred Pounds for the same.

      DAVID ROSSER by his Petition setting forth that he is now almost arriv'd to the age of sixteen years. Therefore he prays that ROBERT RANKINS, his Brother in Law, may be admitted his Guardian, and that he may take and receive into his hands what is due to him. The Petition is referred till next Court and ordered that the Sheriff sumon FRANCIS JAMES to shew cause (if any he can) to the contrary

      THIS INDENTURE made the Twenty Eighth day of November in the fifth year of the Raigne of our Soveraigae Lord King George by the grace of God of Great Brittaine France and Ireland, King, Defender of the faith &c., And in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and Eighteen; Between RICHARD BUTLER of Parish of Hanover in County of Richmond, Planter, of one part and ROBERT RANKINS of Parish and County aforesaid, Planter. of other part: Wittnesseth that RICHARD BUTLER for summe of Five shillings of good and lawful! money of England to him in hand by these p:sents doth bargaine and sell unto ROBERT RANKINS a certainc percell of land containing One hundred acres being part of a Pattent for Three hundred and Fifty acres of land granted by WILLIAM FITZHUGH and GEORGE BRENT, Proprietors of the Northern Neck of Virginia, unto PETER BUTLER, which bears date the Twenty Third day of Aprill 1696; the hundred acres of land is situate in Parish of Hanover in County of Richmond on lower side of the Western Maine Branch of JENGOTEAGUE joyning upon the land of WILLIAM SUTTLE and upon the Land of JERIMIAH STROTHER and being the upermost hundred acres of land contained in the said Pattent lying upon the lower side of the Branch aforesaid joyning upon the said Branch with all houses orchards timber trees and trees likely to make timber with rents issues and profitts theirof; To have and to hould the p:mises unto ROBERT RANKINS and his heirs dureing the term of one whole year paying theirfore the Rent of an Ear of Indian Corne on the First day of the Birth of our Lord God next insueing if lawfully demanded to the end that by vertue of these p:sents and of the Statute for transfering uses into possession, said ROBERT RANKINS may bee in the actuall and sole possession of all and bee theirby the better enabled to take a release or any other conveyance of the freehould and Inheritance to him and his heirs; In Wittness whearof the parties aforesaid have to these p:sents set their hands and seales the day month and year firstt above writghtne
