      "James Greenfield, eldest son of Thomas, was born circa 1677 and died in 1734 in Prince George's County. His will was probated March 26, 1734, naming his daughter, Mary Brooke; his daughter Elizabeth Skinner; and his two younger daughters Sarah and Eliner Greenfield. He did not name his wife, but stated he had "made a deed in trust to wife and her two sons, designed to be in full of all their claims to his estate." The executors were Col. Leonard Hollyday and Henry Skinner. (Maryland Calendar of Wills, Vol. VII, p. 71).

      James married twice: first to Susannah Cheseldyne, daughter of Kenelm, and second to Elinor Smith, daughter of Thomas and Mary Smith. The will of Kenelm Cheseldyne, Gentleman, of St. Mary's County, was probated December 18, 1708 and named his son Kenelm Cheseldyne; his daughter Mary, wife of James Hay (Hey); his granddaughter Mary Hay; his daughter Dryden Cheseldyne; and, his daughter Susannah Greenfield. One of the testees was Col. Thomas Greenfield (Maryland Calendar of Wills, Vol. III, p. 115). The will of Mary Smith, widow of Thomas, of Calvert County, was probated September 12, 1739 and named her six grandchildren; Thomas Smith and Joseph Smith, sons of her son Joseph Smith; Mary Bennett and Anna Watkins, daughters of Dr. Thomas Watkins and her daughter Elizabeth Smith; Sarah Smith, daugher of her son John Smith; and, Walker Greenfield, son of James Greenfield and her daughter Elinor Smith (Maryland Calendar of Wills, Vol. VIII, p. 54).
