      I hereby acknowledge to have received of Geo: Dent, 1921 lbs tobacco, in full for the overplus (if any) for 100 acres sold him on Aug 10, 1737 by deed. I also agree that the line in the sd deed said running from a small bridge over a marsh to the head of sd marsh to the corner bounding on Wm Ord's land, shall run from sd Ord's corner ending tree with a straight line from sd Ord's corner ending tree to the middle of the sd bridge where the run now runs & thence down'sd run or gut to the Cr, as mentioned in the deed.       Charles County Maryland Land Record Liber Z#2, 1744-1753; Page 174. At the request of Thomas Bates, the following lease was recorded on Aug 17, 1747.
      Jul 7, 1747 from Geo: Dent of CC, Gent, to Thos Bates of Prince Georges County, Gent, for 60 £gold Virginia currency, the lease to sd Bates, during the natural life of sd Thos Bates and Mildred, his wife, and to commence from next Jan 1, a tract of land purchased by sd Geo Dent of Newnan Tomkins, being part of a tract of land called Tomkins Purchase, lying in CC, and bounded as by the deed thereof dated Aug 10r 1737, and a further agreement to the bounds dated May 14, 1742. Said parcel of land is supposed to contain about 175 acres. Thomas Bates agrees, within 19 years, to pay sd Dent a further sum of 25 £gold Virginia currency and the rents due to the Lord Proprietary on the premises. Also, Bates will shingle and finish the dwelling house on the premises, and commit no waste. If Thomas Bates survives his wife afd, and wants to leave the premises, then the same shall revert and vest in sd Geo Dent. Signed - Thos: Bates, Geo Dent. Wit - Robt. Yates, Arthur Lee.       We, George Dent and Ann Dent of CC, for the natural love which we have for our son, John Dent of CC, and for 5 shillings sterling, we give John 2 tracts of land lying formerly in Prince Georges County but since part of that County by a late Act of Assembly has been annexed to CC. Sd lands appear to lie in CC, the one called Clarks Inheritance, the other Clarks Purchase, said to contain 500 acres each. To have and to hold after the death of either of us, George or Ann, Clarks Inheritance, except such small part thereof as is cleared and occupied by Stephen Lomax, a tenant now living thereon. And after the death of each of us, George and Ann, sd John Dent to enjoy the other tract called Clarks Purchase. If, however, sd John Dent shall die before he is possessed of sd lands, or being so possessed should die without lawful issue and without disposing of the lands by his will or otherwise, then we, George and Ann, in consideration of the natural love which we have for our daughters, Elizabeth, the wife of William Pen, Sarah; Rebeccah, and Liley [Letey?] Dent, do give them the 2 tracts, and if a daughter dies without issue, the survivors to enjoy the whole, and in case they all die without issue, we give the 2 tracts to the right heirs of us. We, George Dent and Ann Dent of CC, previously, by deed of gift and writing dated Jan 23, 1750, gave to our son, John Dent, two tracts of land, the one called Clerks Inheritance, the other called Clerks Purchase, said to contain 500 acres, each tract, with the provision, nevertheless, that sd John Dent should not occupy the same until after the death of sd George or Ann. Now know that we, sd George and Ann Dent, for and in consideration of a contract of marriage agreed upon between sd John Dent and Sarah Marshall, daughter of Mr. Thomas Marshall of CC, with the consent of us, sd George and Ann and sd Thomas Marshall, do hereby agree that, on the solemnization of sd marriage, sd John Dent shall have actual possession of the sd two tracts of land afd, as fully as if the above proviso had never been made, saving, nevertheless, during y lives, the exception in sd deed, of such small part of the tract called Clarks Inheritance as is cleared and occupied by Stephen Lomax. If the intended marriage does take place, I hereby grant to sd John Dent several Negroes now under an overseer, viz, Dick, Brecteonie, Bob, Mole, & ould Bess, with the stock of cattle & hogs thereon, and also 1 young Negro man called Wile, now in the possession of sd John Dent.
