      In the name of God amen I RICHARD ARMSTRONG of Essex County in Southfarnham Parrish in the Colony of Virginia being sick and weak of body but of sound and perfect mind and memory praise be therefore give to almighty God do make and ordain this my present last Will and Testament in manner and form following that is to say first and principally I commend my soul into the hands of almighty God hopeing thro the merits death & passion of my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ to have full & free pardon and remission of all my sins and wickednesses in General and to inherit everlasting life thro him my blessed Saviour & my body I commit to the earth to be decently and Christinaly buried hopeing it shall rise again to a happy resurrection now as touching the disposition of all such temporal Estate as it hath pleased almighty God to bestow upon me I do give and dispose thereof as followeth Viz.
      first I will that my debts & funeral charges shall be paid & discharged.
      Item I lend unto my beloved wife ANNE all my land and plantation where on I now dwell dureing her widowhood but in case she shall marry then she shall only have the lent of the third part of the said land & plantation during her natural life & after her decease the said land and plantation I do give and bequeath unto my oldest Daughter ELIZABETH to her & her heirs Lawfully begotten for ever but in case she shall die without such heirs then to my Daughter ALLON and her heirs lawfully begotten for ever but in case she shall die without such lawful] heirs then to my Daughter RACHEL and his heirs lawfully begotten for ever but in case she shall die without lawfull heirs then to my Daughter SALLY and her heirs lawfully begotten for ever.
      Item I give unto ANN CURTIS one feather bed two sheets one rug and blangett to her and her heirs.
      Item I give unto JOHN CURTIS twenty shillings current money when comes of age to buy him a gun.
      Item my will and desire is that six leather chairs bought of the Estate of MR. CURTIS and my horse shall be sold toward raising of money to pay my debts likewise a hogshead of cider now in my cellar to be sold for the same use.
      Item I lend unto my beloved wife ANNE all my personal Estate that I have not yet given during her widowhood but in case she shall marry only the third part during her natural life and after my said wifes decease I do give the said personal Estate to be equally divided between three of my children whose particular names I shall here mention ALLON, RACHEL and SALLY to them & their heirs and I do hereby make constitute and ordain THOS. MEADOR and Mr. ISAAC SCANDRETT Executors of this my last Will and Testament and I do hereby revoke disarm] and make void all former Wills & Testaments & this alone to be taken for my last Will and Testament. In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the sixteenth day of January in the year of our Lord 1750/1.

      This last Will and Testament of RICHARD ARMSTRONG deced. being presented into Court by ANN ARMSTRONG his widow and ISAAC SCANDRETT Gent. one of the Exors. therein named appearing and refusing to take the Executorship thereof the said Will was further Contd. for the other Exr. and at a Court held for the sd County on the 19th day of March following the sd Will was duly proved by the Witnesses thereto and THOS. MEADOR the other Exr. appearing also & refusing to take the Executorship on him the sd Will is admitted to record and thereupon Admn. thereon is granted ANN his widow in due form & bond acknowledged for the same.       Know all men by these presents that we GEORGE WRIGHT, WILLIAM PAMPLIN & WILLIAM DUNN are held and firmly bound unto THOS. WARING, ERAS. SMITH, SIMON MILLER & SAMUEL HIPKINS Gent. Justices of ye peace for the County of Essex & their heirs & Successors in ye sum of five hundred pounds sterling to the which payment well and truly to be made we bind ourselves our heirs Exors. & Admrs. jointly & severally firmly by these presents. Witness our hands and seals this 19th day of March Anno Dom 1750.
      The Condition of the above Obligation is such that if the above bound GEORGE WRIGHT Guardian of JOHN, ELIZABETH, MARGARET, RACHEL and URSULA ARMSTRONG heirs Exors. & Admrs. do and shall well and truly pay or cause to be paid unto ye sd orphans all such Estate or Estates as now are or hereafter shall come to the hands of the said GEORGE as soon as they shall attain to lawfull age or when thereto required by the said Justices of the peace for the County of Essex as also to save and keep harmless the sd Justices their heirs and successors from all trouble and damage that shall or may arise about the sd Estate then this obligation to be void and of none effect otherwise to remain in full force power and virtue.

      KNOW ALL MEN by these presents that we JOHN ARMSTRONG, GEORGE WRIGHT & RICHARD ARMSTRONG are held and firmly bound unto SALVATOR MUSCOE, ROBERT BROOKE, JAMES GARNETT and WM. DAINGERFIELD Gent Justices of the County of Essex in the sum of five hundred pounds Sterling Witness our hands and seals this 16th day of December 1740
      THE CONDITION of this obligation is such that if the above bound JOHN ARMSTRONG Admr of all the goods chattles and credits of JOHN ARMSTRONG deced do make or cause to be made a true and perfect inventory of all the goods chattles and credits of the sd deced and the same so made do exhibit or cause to be exhibited in the County Court of Essex at such time as he shall be thereunto required and further do make a just and true account of his actings and doings therein when thereto required by the sd Court and also if it shall hereafter appear that any last Will and Testament was made by the sd deced & the Exr. Exrs named do exhibit the same in the sd Court making request to have it allowed & approved Accordingly if the said JOHN being thereunto required do deliver up his Letters of Admon approbation of such Testament being first had & made in the sd Court then this obligation to be void . .

      KNOW ALL MEN by these presents that we RICHARD ARMSTRONG, THOMAS BURK & THOMAS HAILE are held and firmly bound unto THOMAS WARING, JOSHUA FRY, BENJAMIN WINSLOW & WILLIAM DAINGERFIELD Gentlemen Justices of the peace for the County of Essex in the sum of fifty pounds Sterling money of England Witness our hands and seals this 21st day of July 1741
      THE CONDITION of this obligation is such that if the above bound RICHARD ARMSTRONG Guardian of WILLIAM ARMSTRONG his heirs shall well & truly pay unto the sd Orphan all Estate or Estates as soon as sd Orphan shall attain lawfull age or when thereunto required by the Justices of the County of Essex as also to save & keep harmless the sd Justices from all trouble that shall or may arise about the sd Estate then this obligation to be void and of none effect

      MEMORANDUM. This day AMBROSE ARMSTRONG came before me and made Oath on the Holy Evangelist that when he was sitting up with his Brother, JOHN ARMSTRONG about two nights before he dy'd, he, the said JOHN ARMSTRONG, desired him the said AMBROSE ARMSTRONG to take notice that it was his Will and desire that his Brother, RICHARD ARMSTRONG should collect his debts due to him and pay all yt; due from him the sd. JOHN ARMSTRONG, and that his sd, Brother, RICHARD ARMSTRONG should sell all his Estate and turn it into money and further sayeth not;

      THIS INDENTURE made this Nineteenth day of October in year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and Forty seven Between JOHN ARMSTRONG of Parish of South Farnham in County of Essex of one part and RICHARD ARMSTRONG of the Parish and County aforesaid of other part; Witnesseth that JOHN ARMSTRONG for sum of Sixty pounds current money of Virginia to him in hand paid by RICHARD ARMSTRONG, by these presents doth bargain and sell unto RICHARD ARMSTRONG his heirs a certain tract of land containing One hundred acres more or less lying in the Parish and County aforesaid and bounded; lying and being on the North side of the head of HOSKINS CREEK and Beginning at the mouth of a Branch of said Creek which is called by the name of the SECOND NECK BRANCH, up said Branch to NORTHs line which now goes by the name of GREENHILLs Line, so binding on said line to the head of a Branch which is a dividing Branch between said Land and Land that was formerly JOHN WAGGONERs, which is now in the possession of BENJAMIN WAGGONER, so down the said Branch to the head of the above mentioned Creek, so down the Creek to the first mentioned beginning, And all houses orchards profitts and appurtenances thereof belonging; To have and to hold the said One hundred acres of land with appurtenances unto RICHARD ARMSTRONG his heirs during the term of one whole year paying therefor the rent of one Ear of Indian Corn on Lady next if the same shall be demanded to the intent that by virtue of these presents and of the statute for transferring uses into possession, RICHARD ARMSTRONG may be in the actual possession of the premises and be thereby enabled to accept a release of the Inheritance to him and his heirs; In Witness whereof said JOHN ARMSTRONG hath hereunto set his hand and seal the day and year first above written
