Bryne, John Red. 26 July 1739, Acknowledged by William Crawford, Jemimah wife of Crawford relinquished her right of dower. === 1775-1778 Culpeper County, Virginia Deed Book H; [Antient Press]; Page 456-458 THIS INDENTURE made this tenth day of March 1777 Between WILLIAM CRAWFORD & JEMIMA his Wife of County of Culpeper of one part and WILLIAM HENRY of abovesaid County Witnesseth that for sum of Seventy pounds current money of Virginia the said William Crawford and Jemima his Wife hath granted unto William Henry his heirs one hundred acres of land in County & Parish aforesaid & part of the Tract of land the said William Crawford now lives on & bounded Begining on the river at two gums thence North to two red oaks Corner to JAMES EASTHAM thence North to one white hikory on the river bank thence down the several courses of the river to the Begining Presence of us JOSEPH EARLEY, William Crawford JAMES COLLINS, ADAM BANKS, HENRY FIELD JR. The Commonwealth of Virginia to JOSEPH WOOD & WILLIAM WALKER Gentlemen Whereas William Crawford & Jemima his Wife of County of Culpeper have sold unto William Henry land in County of Culpeper and Whereas said Jemima cannot conveniently travel to our said Court to make acknowledgement of said conveyance we do give unto you power to personally go to the said Jemima & receive her acknowledgement of the same apart from her husband and when you have received her acknowledgement openly certify us thereof in our said Court Witness JOHN JAMESON Clerk of our said Court at the Courthouse the 2d of April 1777. Pursuant to an order of Culpeper County Court we the Subscribers went to Jemima Crawford private and apart from her husband she declared that she did freely acknowledge the same without the threats of her husband Certified under our hands 4th April 1777. At a Court held for Culpeper County 16th June 1777 This Indenture is admitted to record the said Jemima was first privily examined as the Law directs.
