Gerard Roberts ( c. 1621-1703) was a wine -cooper, living at the Sign of the Fleur-de-Luce, in Little St Thomas Apostle, London, where he entertained many Friends, and where meetings were frequently held. After the Great Fire , Friends purchased a plot of land formerly occupied by the White Hart Inn, of which a portion
was used for the erection of a meeting house, and, upon the remainder, several Friends, including Roberts, built dwellinghouses ( Beck and Ball, London Friends' Meetings, 1869, p. 145). He lived later in Lombard Street. He was not, apparently, a preacher, but he was veryactive in many ways on behalf of Friends.

Early Quaker Writings_ by Hugh Barbour and Arthur Roberts says, page 607, gives a short biography of one Gerrard Roberts, a prominent early Quaker. I believe this Gerard Roberts was involved in early Quaker evangelical work in Maryland, either by traveling there personally, or by providing fledgling congregations with Quaker books. It may be that this Gerrard Roberts or books he gave were instrumental in convincing Robert Ellyson to Quakerism.
