      For 48,000 pounds of tobacco a parcel of land containing 2,400 acres part of a tract granted William Calvert 11 Feb 1662 containing 3,000 acres by original patent; William Calvert settled 600 acres of this land at the marriage of his daughter Elizabeth with James Neal of Charles County; the remaining 2,400 acres to Charles Calvert his son who conveyed the land to Charles Edgerton, merchant of St. Mary's County by conveyance dated 14 Jan 1689; will of Charles Edgerton dated 11 Mar 1698 gave the land to his sons John, Thomas, Randolph and James Edgerton; bounded by Randall Hensen

      30 Aug 1731; Thomas Egerton (now of Somerset Co.) "son of Charles Egerton of St. Mary's County, dec'd. aged 50 years last April; from the great concern that I am apprehensive may be done to my near & true relation by bringing in a pretended son of mine born of the body of my wife Elizabeth in my absence and for the love that I have for justice doth freely and voluntarily make the following deposition"; sworn before George Noble & John Beall, Jr., justices of Prince George's County, do declare that on 28 Oct 1720 my wife Elizabeth (whom I have not ever a child living by) left me in Annapolis and from sd. time I never saw her, knew her or cohabitated with her; I never corresponded with her; any child or children got by her are none of mine but a spurious breed & bastards; /s/ Thomas Egerton; wit.       Indenture tripartite made May 25, 1743 between Thomas Egerton, one of the devisees of Charles Egerton of St. Mary's County, and William Egerton son and heir of James Egerton, one of the other devisees of the afd Charles Egerton of the 1st part, George Luxford of Annarundel County of the 2nd part, and John Hicks of St. Mary's County, Gent, of the 3rd part, witnesses that, wherein a common recovery was had at a Provincial Court held at Annapolis the 3rd Tuesday in May, 1743 before Levin Gale, Esq, Chief Justice and his Associates, Justices of the same Court, of a tract of 2400 acres of plantable land, being part of all that tract of land on the east side of Piscataway River, and on the south side of a creek in the sd river called Piscataway Cr, and bounded by the bounded tree of Randall Hawsons, an Ashen Swamp by the creek side near an Indian Field, on the north with sd Cr, on the west with the River and the land of Randall Hawsons afd called, Calvert Manor, lying in PG, containing and laid out for about 3000 acres, wherein the sd George Luxford was demandant and the sd John Hicks was tenant, who vouched to warranty the sd Thomas Egerton and William Egerton "and they two the Common Voucher" and whereupon a writ of seizin has been issued and executed, as by the record and process of the sd Recovery, remaining in the Provincial Court may appear, which same recovery was had to the end that sd Thomas Egerton and William Egerton might be enabled to convey to sd John Hicks, an estate of inheritance in fee simple, of and to sd 2400 acres of land. Now this deed witnesses that sd Thomas Egerton and William Egerton, for 240 £of paper money to them paid by John Hicks, have sold to sd Hicks, sd 2400 acres of land.       HICKS, JOHN, St. Mary's Co. 30 May 1749; 20 Aug 1753
      To eldest son, William Hicks, plantation called "St, Johns," 250 A. which I occupy and adjoining to "Saint Barbarys" whereon live. My desire is that as my said son William is now in England with his uncle, if his uncle provides well for hint there, my desire is that he give unto his brother George Hicks the said plantation called "St. Johns" above devised to him but this is left to himself.
      To son George Hicks, plantation whereon I dwell called 'Saint Barbarys," 100 A.
      To dau. Mary Kenner wife of William Kenner of Cherry Point in Northumberland Co. Va, my plantation called "Church Hill" lying on the heat of St. Inegoes Creek, St. Mary's Co., conveyed to me for 650 A. with land I bought of Matthew Harbert and conveyed by Wm. Thompson and his wife Ellinor, mother to the said Matthew Harbert and given to said Ellinor by James Pattinson her father and she then was wife to Harbert - which will appear by said Pattinsons will and deeds.
      As for the land at Piscatoway which I bought of Thomas and William Egerton after they had cut off the entail thereof, 2400 A. by Resurvey in the Provincial court in May 1743, the ex. to go to get the possession of, from the heirs of George Noble and the four Edlins who are at present possessed thereof and when so done
      I appoint said ex. to sell the same and give 1/4 pt of money to son George Hicks, 1/2 to retain himself and other 1/4 to my wife.
